Can anyone share advice to get a religious father to accept an interfaith relationship? We’re both Indian - sikh & hindu. There seems to be limited room for dialogue and a lot of closed mindedness as he mentioned that if I choose to continue the relationship, he will not be a part of my life.

You do you they will come around. In my case I invited my then GF to stay with my family for some time. That turned things around when they got to know her as a person and could see that their son will be happy with the person he has chosen.

It's probably mostly drama. He'll fall in line once you call his bluff. Seen this too many times "mai to jeeteji marjaunga" crap.

What’s going on here? Sikhs were carved out of the Hindu religion, to protect Hindus from foreign invading troops. Please tell your dad to read history and go out and marry this guy/gal. The traditions are identical (obviously) and he’ll come around. Sorry you’re going through this!

like

Hi OP, do you want to marry this guy? You can try to ask your dad to meet him and his parents and then ask him to find their faults. He may be this insistent because he hasn’t met/spoken them in person. It’s very convenient to have stereotypes about certain communities, but meeting/talking makes you find things in common. Another way is to explain that if this doesn’t work it will take you another 1-2 years to get over this guy and then another 2-3 years or never until you find someone else (exaggerate these numbers as much as possible) and ask him if that’s what he wants for you as his daughter. Also figure out what he has an issue with and convince him that it’s a nonissue. For e.g., does he feel like you won’t have the same amount of freedom, you’ll be forced to follow a particular religion and way of life, grandkids will only speak the other language Break his arguments into smaller pieces and try to reason. Good luck!

Or two states.

Wife’s parents were completely against us getting married, wife did NOT give up on us and eventually her parents came around. They love me now and it’s like nothing ever happened. Be a bit patient - things will work; you and your SO need to be super strong despite all that your families say

like

Can you convince your Mom and siblings? If they are convinced he may eventually come around.

If your parents are important, then you listen to them. If they are less important and you can deal with the drama, then you do whatever you want

Sounds like OP knows the answer on what he/she wants to do with the situation.

Lol M2. Indian parents can pull so much nonsense like this.

Everyone’s on board and loves him. My dad has no interest in hearing anything of him once he realized religion is different. At the end of the day, his approval isn’t make or break for me but I’d really want him to be on board for the sake of everyone’s peace/happiness.

16 weeks and so worried all of the stress I’m under is going to hurt the baby. Between work, my own scary (non-pregnancy) health stuff, the pandemic, my mom (who is a widow and lives alone, basically isolated by choice due to covid) is having health issues, and pressures to keep billable hours up, I’ve been having complete breakdowns. Today I spent almost the entire day crying and now have to make up the billable time this weekend. I really worry abt what effect this will have on the babe.

I’m thinking of quitting breastfeeding. My baby is 5 months old, and my pump just broke, and I don’t think she’s eating enough and she wakes up all the time at night hungry. I’m just tired of it. I’d rather just give her bottles and call it a day. Ready for my husband to take the night feeds, ready to be able to have a drink without worrying about when I have to feed the baby. The actual breastfeeding has been easy, which is why I feel guilty for “quitting.”

What is the federal parental leave policy? I’m new to government and having a baby soon. I know we’re given 12 weeks and have to sign an agreement to work 12 weeks after we return but are there other stipulations to a claw back period or how long we had to be at the agency first?

Flew for the first time today. Woman next to me took her mask off immediately upon sitting down and starting chatting loudly with her son. I asked her politely if she could keep her mask on and she proceeded to spend the rest of the flight fake sneezing and laughing giving me the side eye to see my reaction. What an inspirational mother.

Partner appreciation post: I gave birth a few days ago and was feeling pretty ill yesterday (our first full day home from the hospital). Daddy took complete care of the baby and me, even helping me in and out of bed, feeding me, and helping me pull my maternity underwear up and down in the bathroom. He’s a rockstar!!

I’m concerned about my mom’s health and want to work closer from home. Is this a valid reason for me to apply to a consulting job that is closer to home? I’m a recent college grad in the US and I’m the only child. My current firm’s office is ~2 hr from my (mom’s) home. I can’t live with and take care of her once the WFH is over. I saw that some of MBBs have offices pretty close to my home (~10 min). When applying to the positions, can I mention that I want to take care of my parent?

Earlier this week I was so busy I only pumped three times when I normally pump 6 times. Since then my milk supply fell drastically where I only pump 2 oz each session even if I pump 30 minutes when before I’d be pumping 3.5-5 oz in 15, and it’s been 4 days already. I know it’s silly but I feel sad thinking I won’t be able to feed my baby sufficiently with breastmilk anymore. I’ll supplement but I felt happy being able to provide full breastmilk before and feel a sense of loss now. Just venting
