I did it by switching firms. It was relatively easy to get a referral but then I already had FDD experience. Good luck.

My interviews for tax at D and PwC for SA1 were so informal, it was quite surprising. It was mostly them trying to convince me to join them, not the other way around (I'm not special, just a senior). Last year when my resumes got referred, D immediately set up the interviews the same week. PwC was a bit delayed but they'd already prepared the offer letter before I even interviewed.
It also depends on the group I suppose and how you got referred. I talked with another D partner this year just to see what his group does and got an offer letter 2 days later.

The market is insanely hot right now, if you aren’t getting LinkedIn or business email headhunters, reach out to your school friends for a referral. Even cold calling recruiters could pull you to a new firm even during busy season.

One more thing, if you have a friend at a firm you want to go, see if they can get a referral bonus and you could plan yourselves a cool little vacation

Whole process, from HR interview, partner interview, negotiation and offer letter, took a week with PwC.

No - one HR interview, then back to back interviews with 2 partners a few days later.

Which offer should I accept? Currently staff 2 at big 4 in Tax with CPA license. I want to leave tax ASAP. Both are public companies +1B in revenue and same salary. Offer 1 - staff revenue accountant so reading contracts, speaking with the sales team and legal team, a lot of work at the end of the months to close books and reconcile transactions to make sure we are ASC 606 compliant. This track usually leads to director of revenue. Offer 2 - internal audit staff so SOX and compliance projects.
