The firm did not match market for associates. Counsel comp remains black box. Many senior associates make more than counsel.
How’s associate scale and hours?
The first and second years are market. After that, from what I gathered, everyone is below market. They used to list the salary on their internal portal, but sometime around December 2021, that disappeared. Then around March 2022, they sent an email to everyone that stated their new salary and if they were entitled to a bonus; that email would also state what their productivity and the discretionary bonus were for the year.
MGW works for certain kinds of personalities, and if you get under the right partner/client matter, you can thrive. I will say that I barely work on weekends, and there isn't an expectation for me to work past Friday evening. But that is definitely group specific.
Here is a general idea of the 2021 bonus structure that was posted on the internal portal. You’re only required to do 1950. Eligibility for bonus is based on the following tiers; also, 50 hours can apply to pro-Bono.
2050/ 2150/ 2250
1-2 yr 15k / 12.5k/ 10K = 37.5K
3-5 yr. 20k/ 20k/ 20k = 60K
6+. 25k/ 22.5k/ 22.5K = 70k
