This is just my opinion, but no matter how much I loved a firm or the people there I’d never go back once they laid me off. IMO D&T has shown they care more about preserving the higher ups and the recruiting pipeline than their current employees. As of now, PwC is vowing no lay offs and their people seem to believe them based on prior recession experiences. D has the reputation of lay offs at the slightest contraction, which I didn’t find out until too late. I have an exit op that’s still on the table. I’m laying low until that start date approches, then getting out and never looking back. Should I boomerang to B4, it will be at either EY or PwC.
OP I agree, but like I said, D has the layoff happy reputation while PwC didn’t lay anyone off in 2016 and substantially limited them in 2008-2009 based on what I’ve seen posted on various threads. Not sure about EY or KPMG
Also, a follow-up question is would you recommend others to do the same, or just move on and never look back?
I would say, no! I’d never go back, but these are strange times. If it’s between having a job or no job, I’d go back. However, I’d know there wouldn’t be any loyalty there at all. I’d keep my eyes open for any opportunity to jump to another firm that acted better towards their people and wouldn’t feel guilty about leaving.

Happened to me. Laid off during the 2009 recession and was later hired back into the same role. Small privately owned company. No formal interviewing process for the rehire. At the time I took it out of need, although I didn’t really look for alternatives, I lacked confidence back then. I was pissed when I got laid off but with time I understood it was not personal and so it really didn’t impact my experience in the rehire period. To be clear, I forgave but didn’t forget but also didn’t actively think about it. In retrospect I regret going back but not because they once laid me off. I just generally regret not switching jobs more often.
