Can anyone suggest a self-reflective exercise that was helpful in finding your new career?

I haven't managed to pivot yet, but one exercise I found really helpful recently was writing down on post it notes things I like doing, as well as skills I have. You could probably take this further and add other categories, too. Looking at everything together you can start to see natural groupings and strengths that lend themselves to certain areas.

@S1, yes, that's totally what I'm talking about! That topic you find super interesting and love to read/watch documentaries about, that activity that you can spend hours doing and not get bored. They might not seem relevant to a career but there's something in them that holds your interest and you might find they align in some way with your skills. I think that focussing on what holds your interest and what you enjoy doing is really important!

I might get flack for this but I took the 16 personality test (you can Google it) and I found it super helpful in understanding myself in so many aspects(career, relationships, parenting, etc). It helped me understand my strengths which I’ve known but didn’t actually realize. Also your weaknesses..so I definitely think it’s been life changing, for me at least.

I like what the first poster said and feel that you just need to start paying more attention to where you do and don’t have energy. Also here are some good questions to reflect on. 1. What do you love to talk about? 2. What do you love to learn about/what kind of articles are you drawn to read? 3. What do you teach others about? 4. Think of something you work d really hard to get/obtain - what was inspiring you to stick with it? 5. In a team setting what are you known for? 6. If you knew you could not fail - what would you do?

Reflect back on these to see what kind of patterns are showing up in your responses. Can you clearly see your passions and strengths? If yes, then start to brainstorm sectors that leverage those skills.

If this was helpful - I have more to offer. I am a career transition coach who helps people figure out their pivot and have a clear plan of action for the change. DM me for more info. Good luck!

I believe observing where your energy is ebbing and flowing is one of the best ways like PwC1 said. I’m in fact running a live on fishbowl later today and also for a week outside since I am a career transition coach on the side too. Drop me a DM if you want to join.

I was told once to create my perfect job description. As I created it, it started to materialize. I ended up creating my own role at a company I worked at with that job description I wrote. Multiple shift happened in leadership and I quickly was pushed out of the role. It was a bummer, but I at least gave it a shot and had my dream job for a few months.

Hi everyone, I am 4.9 years experienced , I joined Fractal 3 months ago as a data engineer, but still haven't got any project. Process is so slow that I have received only 4 to 5 project calls. I switched in hopes that will learn the new tech and tools. But now i am starting to forget even the one i knew. Should i go for change or wait a little more time as fractal is reputed in AI/ML? I have interview lined up with Impetus as for now. Would it be better choice?

SPHR exam- has anyone ever been “randomly selected” for an application audit? This just happened to me and the sheer amount of effort that is going to go into collecting all the documents almost makes me not want to follow through. Since I didn’t finish undergrad, they’re asking for a copy of my high school diploma or transcript and that itself is going to be an absolute nightmare to get hold of. Guess I’m not really looking for a solution here, just venting.

So here is my dilemma:
- based in the UK
- opportunity for lateral internal move (culture&engagement) or stay where I am (reward). I am mid level IC struggling to progress due to flat structure so considering lateral move then hopefully up from there.
- 2 primary aged children, currently have flexibility in current/new role too
- Husband just got accepted on a international rotation which means I will be single parent for the short term.

What to do? Go with the unknown or coast comfortably?
