Can anyone that works at Macquarie in IBD provide any insight on what type of behavioural questions are typical for An analyst role? I was told it will be different than traditional IB interviews so trying to get a sense of what they’re looking for.

Would you rather try to get promoted/climb the career ladder or try and grow your side hustle into a larger enterprise while working your day job? I’m at a point where I’m very comfortable where I am and ready to move on to higher paying but more stressful roles. So about 8 mos into my 1st year I accepted a PE/VC role that starts in Nov. I was pretty unhappy and felt like IB wasn’t for me. Few months after that I feel like I’ve settled into the role more, bonded with my team and just happier overall. I still dread working every weekend & over holidays but I feel more confident about my work. We had reviews and turns out I’m top bucket/highest ranked analyst in my class (NYC EB) and now I feel guilty about leaving. Anyone have thoughts here?

Can IB peeps help me understand the hours you work. At 80 hours per week the following seem inevitable: High rate of errors or extreme drop off in productivity (most likely both). Emotional reactions. Poor decision making. Little to no creativity. Extreme sleep deprivation or no social life (likely both). Obviously the list could go on. I don’t see how it’s a net benefit to the employee or employer.
