I just got an email from a recruiter from Google!
Omgomgomgomg
He said that the position is in the Bay Area or New York. I haven’t replied the email. I don’t think we can move to those cities, but I don’t want to lose this opportunity. Does anyone know if Google does remote jobs within US?
And the best part-- it's under the table 💲
Made lemongrass chicken today. Yumm!

Depends on the system. Any large system will likely have an HR policy that requires x number of years before being considered, and often times you have to wait to get promoted until the person in the position retires/moves on. That’s the main reason I left industry and started doing consulting, couldn’t take the bureaucracy of it all.
Nailed it. Working at a large system sucked. Have to wait for senior leaders to move on in order to move up. Or, have to convince your boss to allow you to explore other opportunities within the organization and potentially putting their priorities at risk. If you’re able to convince your boss that you should explore other opportunities, you’re going to get evaluated against candidates in that department/service line (or external candidates looking to move up because they’re stymied in their current organization) that have actually done the work they’re being considered for, so you’re at a disadvantage there.
So SLOW
Unlike consulting where you can get promoted for your work, health systems require there be an open role. So I could not be promoted to VP unless my VP quit, or I left and went someplace else. With all the consolidation those higher level jobs are becoming more scarce.
With over 20 YOE, I had to leave one organization for another to move forward. My experience is healthcare, in general, is slow to change. Telehealth technology has been available for 10+ years, it made a pandemic force the hands of change. Career progression can be slow as well.
Mentor
extremely political and nearly impossible to move up. better hope your boss gets fired or leaves so you can take their job.
But wait! Even if your boss leaves you likely don’t have enough YOE according to HR.
