Some states such as NJ, CA, in the USA, have PFL supplemental pay. As long as you have doctor support (written), they really cannot deny your request. If you’re in a state such as TX, you can invoke FMLA and you won’t get paid but you’ll have job protected leave, at least. Our company operates on the honor system, as long as there is some note from the doc for your family member, it’s fine and will be approved.

It would all depend on the medical certification from the doctor. Once the state gets it they will review and determine if it qualifies.

As long as you provide the physician documentation you should be fine. Oftentimes they reach out for more information and you have to stay on top of what they ask for. Most times denials occurred at my company when people wouldn’t return back necessary paperwork or calls after the initial application submission. Ultimately, the reason just needs to fall under inpatient care or continuing treatments or supervision for a condition.
I don't think it should be a problem. A few years ago I was approved to take off work to take care of my Grandfather who had a stroke. I was able to spend 12 weeks with him in and out of the hospital and rehab. I had no problems getting it approved.
Thanks all, I’m really hopeful it gets approved🙏🏻 If I get approved and can take 12weeks off the next 3 months, given that it’s year end, should I still be entitled to receive a bonus? Or would they not give it to me if I’m on leave (even the prorated portion for the 8months I worked)? Our bonus decisions are made from Oct-Jan and paid out in Jan

We pay our bonus out to those on leave. You should ask your manager or HR
