It’s sometimes tough figuring out retirement plans as a creative freelancer where financial conversations within my community are limited. I’m 35 and wish I had done everything sooner — backdoor Roth IRA, HSA, 401k etc. Better late than never I guess :)

I’ve elected max I can contribute to 401k through employer then switched jobs to a role that pays lot more. I continued to elect the maximum 401k contributions in the new job as well. Since they have no visibility to my previous contributions, the new company did not manage my contributions in a way that they don’t contribute more than maximum fed contribution limit of $19k max.
