Yeah it’s a little naive to think that the number one reason most folks join the armed forces is “to serve.”
Or you join for the college money.
SC1 - I don't think it's all about service, but the surprise is the complaint about potentially doing more than one weekend per month and two weeks per year. Imagine if this fool gets activated!
As a former Marine let me say please don’t become an officer just for the clearance.
You join the military because you want to serve, not because you want a clearance. Your motivations are super questionable.
Do you already have your clearance paperwork submitted? Joining the reserves won’t make that go any faster. If you are trying to get a sponsor, it’s not a bad way, but it’ll probably still take some time since you’ll have to pass your basic training and OCS first. If you want a TS, recommend branching MI, Cyber, or MP, since those positions require it most of the time.
That's a big commitment and it's competitive to be an officer. Army OCS is 12 weeks, I don't know if there's a shorter version for reserves. And that's in addition to basic combat training and your branch specific training. And then, of course, there are deployments. This is the most work you could do for a clearance.
No. Its based in how much they have to look into. I.e. if yiu dint travel much, have no foreign friends or relatives, itll go faster.
Well here I was thinking it would only be a 1 weekend per month and 2 weeks out of the year commitment. Guess the info on the web is a little misleading.
I was thinking to do it to get sponsored for a clearance, so I can get on projects that need a TS in hand already. Because otherwise, projects won’t sponsor me to wait 2 years to get the clearance.
Are you a veteran?
Lol the website is not misleading. One weekend a month and two weeks a year is after you are actually indoctrinated and trained. You are purporting to be a smart person and you honestly thought you could just become an officer in one weekend a month and two weeks a year? Sheesh.
SC1 - Wanting to do it is a huge part. Whatever, dumb discussion.
