Can I give less than a two week notice? or will that burn all the bridges I have at the company?

The real question is why you wouldn't give two weeks? It's common professional courtesy. If you're not busy they'll usually let you go immediately anyway. I don't know what level you are but most people who are deployed on engagements have more than two weeks of work on their plate, so your abrupt departure just puts extra pressure on the team and creates more work for your colleagues.

I did. I gave 1 week notice and I worked that entire week. May all the bridges I burn light the way

It was just a rough week and got to thinking if this job was really for me. But spoke with my coach and got my shit together and I’m feeling better now and back at it. Thanks everyone appreciate the responses, I’ll keep this in mind when the time is right.

like

@M1 - Not necessarily. I gave one week notice and worked my ass off to get everything done and/or transitioned. I knew it was coming though, so I was working way more than anyone else for 2-3 weeks I still meet my old team for lunch sometimes, so I wouldn’t say I pissed them off

like

You have to give a two week notice if you want to get paid for two more weeks. If you give a week they can tell you to go home right there

like

If you are on bench sure, if you have some important stuff maybe try

like

Amen to EY1. Always offer to work 2 weeks. Trust me, the people you'll piss off by not offering know other people in the industry, and you will get a bad reputation

like

I know there are always exceptions. But are you willing to gamble future opportunities on "not necessarily?" You should always offer.

Hypothetical: If you are new to a job and working part time on a startup and your team was accepted into Y Combinator, would you quit your job so you could go full time for the three months? Can I quit without the hard copy or is it risky?

Additional Posts in Risk Assurance

Just transferred from IT Audit to Strategy and Transactions. Been a goal of mine for a while so I’m happy to see it play out. Not posting just to say I did it, but because I’ve been following this bowl for a while and see people get negative about being pigeon holed. There were tons of transferable skills that I was able to highlight that got a role that’s completely different, so I just don’t want anyone feeling discouraged if they’re hitting walls.
