Can I jump firms without interviewing in this market? S3 with 3 years FDD experience... not really interested in more than 1 conversation to get to to know the team. To me it's not worth the stress to go through a full interview process but if I received a competitive offer quickly, then I would seriously consider switching.

Just curious why you would even want to jump firms without getting to know anyone in the group you potentially might join? Seems like you’re trying to run for something or are you just that underpaid where you currently are?

What firm?

I think you’re gonna get the typical why aren’t you a manager yet look. Other firms might think there’s something wrong with your situation and will perceive that as leverage for them to pay you less than what you might hope. Also, unless the people hiring you know you personally, you’re always gonna have to go through a full interview. Almost all used cars require an inspection no matter how new it looks.

You almost certainly cannot. I made an internal transfer into Big 4 FDD without interviewing though but still had to network

Kpmg 1 has an interesting perspective and I agree. I’d want at least a couple rounds - maybe try to use it to get to manager in your position if you’re leaving at s3. Make sure that the manager bump is more than if you stay.

Both sides get some value out of the 3-4 interview process. Company get to assess how good you may be and figure out how much base / sign-on to offer. You get to understand a bit more about the group (size/client/culture) which help you make sure you are not joining somewhere toxic. It’s like the deals we work on, your client don’t invest in a target without spending a substantial time talking with management first. You don’t skip this step just because the numbers company gave you look good.

Lmao, sounds like you’re not someone worth hiring if you can’t even put in a few hours to prep and interview.

like

Honestly I wouldn’t think you would need much prep. We just hired someone that only talked to two people. My convo with the person was 15 minutes and basically a formality since they had FDD experience. At EY it is better to go through a partner vs the recruiters to get the process done quickly. External S3 with experience should be able to negotiate a healthy premium plus signing bonus.

To everyone interviewing, to hopefully calm some nerves: The process is really long. Not hearing back from the recruiter for a few days, or even weeks, is completely normal. There can be multiple weeks between rounds and then multiple weeks before you get feedback. Don’t think too much into it. There is no indication of positive or negative by no response. On average it takes 3+ months, and usually 2+ application attempts, to get hired. Good luck! 🍀
