I’ve been a general manager for a convenience store for almost 2 years now. I have raised profit after variable expenses by 13% compared to last year, and exceeding budgets in almost every category except for turnover. I got an 11% raise last year, but still only make $55k. My store profits about 17k a month on inside sales, and 160k a month in fuel. I think I deserve more, but I don’t know how to ask for it, and don’t know how to begin a job search aside from indeed. Any advice?

Hi- I got two raises last year (one with promotion last December). I believe I am underpaid- partly for my own lack of speaking up and negotiating and not making the best career moves.

Does this make sense? Got a great 2021 review from supervisor (1 page narrative of my accomplishments), just 1 rec for improvement but minor admin issue. But she rated me AVERAGE on everything. Her explanation: 1) you either do a good job or you don’t 2) I’m not doing better than anyone else on the team. Everyone on my team is amazing, so no matter how hard we all work, we still get rated as average. I feel like this is partly because being rated above average means you can ask for a raise.

I recently asked my boss for a raise after discussing a yearly review with them. I was told because there was a company wide raise back in December, that would technically be my raise, which was $0.45/hr. Got a healthcare hedge fund analyst offer with 150K base and up to 250K bonus. With comp increase potential but no clear path to be promoted to portfolio manager given the fund size. The grass is not always greener. I left my prior firm that paid market but had a high hours requirement for bonus solely because I didn’t think I would hit it and the new firm guaranteed my bonuses. I loved the firm and the people, and the partners were always available to help.
