Can I work from Canada or India till the time we are remote? I am thinking of working from there for 6 months or less so that I can maintain my alien resident tax status in US. Has anyone done this with big 4?

Your source of income is generated in the US. Not sure how people come up with an idea like that. US sourced income are always taxed no matter if you are resident or non-resident during the year.

When you work from anywhere outside US, say India in this case, you potentially create a permanent establishment in India. This means India will want a piece of tax, which in normal scenario is paid in the US. This creates additional burden on your employer as well, as they will be subject to payroll tax filings and withholding in India. Here you unknowingly created liability issues for your US employer in a foreign jurisdiction.

In a nutshell, no, the firm has some tax compliance concerns due to which US employees cannot work from outside the US. I’m currently in India and that’s what I was told. They obviously made an exception for a while due to the pandemic but I think that’s all done now.

EY1: thanks for the info OP. Hope things get sorted out for you soon. 👍🏼

EY3: tax is fine, all I am asking is that can I work from Canada and pay taxes in US and declare in Canada as well.

In a meeting I said, “creatives can be savages sometime.” because of their unruly behavior towards internal teams, pushing deadlines, or throwing tantrums. I was called out and chastised by a junior creative for using the word “savages” in an unacceptable manner because the word is slur to non-whites in a zoom meeting. I am a BIPOC creative. Am I the asshole?

Two years in consulting (Senior Ass 😏). No promotion or raise. Another big 4 has offered something. Debating whether or not I should take it. 20% increase in pay plus title bump. Does it seem disingenuous to leave in the midst of client work that’s taking up a lot of time? Honestly don’t see a plus sign of sticking around.
