The goal of every interview should be to transform it into a fluid conversation
There is art to articulating a well prepared story in a conversational way where it doesn’t seem rehearsed

Same exact thing happened to me. No idea, maybe the flow is better when you’re more natural.

Acting takes practice.
I find if the story is too well rehearsed it becomes boring, don't know if that is intended. I have had people tell me how they knew back when they were 5 years old that they wanted to do problem solving for a living. Pretty awkward story.
However, I passed them to the next round, but gave feedback to maybe rethink how to tell the motivational stories.
If you rock the case and the story is logical, a too well prepared story will not be a blocker.
Maybe different angle: when I prepared too much for interviews they never worked out for me. Got dinged everywhere. Then I stopped caring (in the recruiting season the year later) and suddenly I got an offer as I was quite relaxed and had fun in the process, rather than trying to make everything perfect. With that offer at a tier 2 firm I had a solid fallback, and all the other interviews worked out as well.
Long story short: I don't think it was the degree to which the story was rehearsed...

It depends on how you told your stories. I prefer someone sounding smooth and natural much more than someone sounding rehearsed
You shouldn’t have to rehearse something that you did. I usually just have broad bullet points to jog my memory and speak extemporaneously to sound more genuine
I always do very well in the interviews where I’m not that interested in the job. Just made it to final at EY when I was just going through the motions and talking to the interviewers like they were my pals
I generally can tell when it’s a canned story and will try to move you off of it ASAP.
