What do you mean by DIY? We have a nanny from 8-6pm M-F, but the real game changer is having my parents close by. When we are both traveling or have late nights, they will take our son over night. Same goes for when we need a date night or do a weekend away.
What we do - only one kid but maybe this helps: - ALL meals & snacks are planned and prepped as much as possible on the weekend - on Sunday, we put together a full set of clothes for each work day and keep them in individual boxes - laundry, cleaning etc is all done on the weekend and everyone has to help out What my parents did was rideshare daycare pickup/drop off ie other parents would pick us up from daycare and drop off at home. Granted requires a lot of coordination, right car size, car seat etc
You will need dependable emergency care for those unplanned moments (kid sick and sent home from day care, daycare early close due to weather, last minute travel for client, etc). If no parents nearby do you have siblings / close friends you can count on? If not, au pair plus day care / school after care should get you covered. We had a stable of part time nannies / babysitters - I do not recommend this approach. It’s stressful to find someone who is available on short notice. Like for travel weeks, we had a list of babysitters we’d go thru, to arrange daycare drop off and pickups / evening routine, but they might not be free for emergencies that pop up during the week. Honestly finding the care for unpredictable travel was hard enough already (I actually preferred the 1 long term engagement I was on bc travel schedule was stable). So live-in is the way to go. This will give you enough time to work on early travel back in case of emergencies (I’m assuming every night at least one of you will be home). I’m surprised you guys were able to manage DIY this far (10 years! Congrats!!). I only know a few families with 3 kids, but all of them either have parents close by (or SAHM) or live ins
Yes.. I am beginning to think that live-in is the only way to go forward. Thanks!
