I'd think an associate could afford the M3 so I'd hope a partner could. I think they can aim higher than that.
It depends on the location and number of wives / gf they are liable for
E1, you never owned a BMW obviously. I've owned 4 so far and the upkeep is nothing if you buy them new and purchase a maintenance plan and tire warranty.
OP, the M3 isn't that expensive (relatively speaking, of course). And there is a decent used market for them, so you can get one a couple of years old for the cost of a new regular 3-series.
Afford is relative, it depends how leveraged you are comfortable being. If the other areas of your life are within means, you are saving and contributing, and aren't plagued with revolving balances you can probably "afford" a more expensive vehicle. Should you, though?
Manager here... own an m3
EY1 -- I drove a 1995 m3 for close to 20 years. Upgraded to a 2005 m3 (purchased used with 11,500 miles) recently. If you can take minimal care of your car, it won't require costly maintenance.
Most of the partners I know could probably buy a brand new M3 every few months and maintain a nice house in the burbs of a Tier 2 city with ease, if that was their thing.
My dream car was the 2008 m3. At 25k, that's about $500 a month. Insurance is about 120/mo, gas about 200/mo, and repair budget 200/mo. That's $1020/mo for the car already. Decent 3 bedroom house in Texas is about $1000/mo. Add about $200-300/mo for another bedroom. Depending on what you want, you really could get it. Typically, people would say not to spend more than 15% on a car, and 33% on a house, but hey to each their own!
^Your auto insurance is $120 a month?? I'm being ripped off if that's the case. Spotless driving record too.
My insurance for 2 cars in a close suburb of Boston, full coverage w/$1000 deductible is $1050 / year, and neither my wife or my driving records are spotless (couple fender benders)
I think the upkeep for a m3 would put you in the poor house, bmw's suck
Yes easily - Partners can pull in up to $1M a year.
Alfa Guilia quadraforrmadioooo is where it's at, not the underpowered M3
A3: definitely am, just focused on German cars
Lol M3's are peanuts to them. They can afford super cars if they wanted but most are smart enough to not buy a 200k+ car... unless they really really love cars
Consultant 1 is right. Cars are terrible investments
M3* is my dream car
M1 I'd be happy with a M3!!!
Yes they can
