“Actually do tax consulting”

What do you think you are consulting on, if not complying with tax laws? I find people without a compliance background fairly useless when I need an expert tax opinion.

Tax Compliants just doesn’t make sense, so anyone who does tax whether that is compliance, planning or controversy is known as a consultant.

It is important that a well rounded tax professional know compliance as well tax accounting. You may be a top notch tax planner but if you don’t know how that planning is reported on a tax return, affects a company’s ETR or is otherwise accounted for then you are not fully effective. So IMO a good tax consultant needs to be well versed in the tax law, tax reporting and tax accounting.

Tax Consultant title at Deloitte is equivalent to Tax Associate title at Pdubs. As far as I know, the only “tax consulting” groups are mainly specialty ones like ITS/TP/M&A/TMC

ITS and TP also have compliance and financial reporting elements - depending on market, that may be all they do.

Other groups like Indirect and Gi3 would likely be more of a consulting mindset than core tax. Granted, Indirect can also be compliance heavy, but the teams I’ve worked with recently seem to be moving to a CoE model for compliance with all local teams being more consulting and advisory type individuals.

But @OP- tax consultant is just a title, role would primarily be compliance (which I do agree always can have an element of advisory, at least when the compliance people are actually technically strong).

Yeah. It’s compliance.. tax returns..

Anyone here hate going to trial? Im a biglaw midlevel litigator and just went through my first trial. I’d like to never do one again 😂. Did I choose the wrong career? Or do I just ride on the fact that trials are pretty rare in biglaw? I actually love my job day-to-day and could see myself doing it for quite a while, but now I’m conflicted because of my disdain for trial.

Hi,

I'm being offered an Asst. Mgr designation at KGS. What's the earning potential at AM band. I've cleared all rounds, and hold a offer at 19.6.

How much should I expect.

How do Big 4 firms handle retention counteroffers/matching for competing offers from outside of your city and cost of living?

For example, you live in a low cost of living and receive an offer from a competing firm in a high cost of living state? Would there be an adjustment of some sort based on the cost of living difference? Would they offer to retain you in the other city and match the offer?

What’s the usual play in this scenario?
