CDO is usually outsourcing. So when Accenture gets a large outsourcing contract like usps or healthcare.gov (public contracts) Accenture runs all of the operations and technology for those companies. So essentially all of our usps mail supply chain is being managed by Accenture. Many times Accenture C&M will handle all of the consulting and technology/operations strategy and implementation then the company may sign a 5 year agreement that Accenture will run and support all of that which was implemented for the organization. That ongoing support is what is considered CDO. Hope that example helps.
C&M= project based work, true consulting. CD&O= delivery support, more like staff aug. C&M is more desirable internally due to higher compensation and arguably more interesting work.
A2, I, in C&M, was forced to go to a CDO project by my MD. I quit but no one is truly safe
Be aware that Accenture in the past has forced people from CM into CDO without much notice.
I've known people who were told they were moved to CDO by email. It happens and it can happen on little notice
Thanks all, super helpful!
Idk if I would agree @D1. This only happens to people that don't get staffed after usually 4-6months. And I think a shift to CDO is better than getting possibly getting laid off. So I see it as a positive fall back for all employees.
So the only way out of CDO is to get out of Accenture?
A5 I've seen moves in both directions though I don't know how easy or hard it is to get out of CDO right now
