Can someone help me understand: the person I report to asked me what I was working on and I provided a list of projects on my plate. Then I took a few days off, the first day I’m back, she asked me again about the status of those same projects. I’m sitting here scratching my head. Is this an example of micro-managing?

Not sure yet. Just tell her there’s been no change to the status since you’ve been away literally between the last time she asked and today.

like

Nope. This is not the first time she’s acting this way. She tends to think no one is really working with the WFH situation and she needs to constantly monitor everyone. Funny thing is she’s always away, and takes 3 hour lunches. She’s prob projecting.

like

Depends on your level but I don't think so. Seems like they just want to know the status of it not necessarily have it ready right away. Unless that was what something they mentioned the last time. Did they communicate that they were expecting something from you from that list?

like

You are a manager and still being asked this way?

like

Exactly!

like

Is your relationship decent? I’m only a senior but I think I’d just ask her what’s up. Play naive and just genuinely ask why she wants to check in with you this way and if there’s any way for you to help her ease her anxiety, maybe offer to initiate the check ins. You don’t actually have to do them or maybe do them once or twice but she will drop it once confronted I bet

like

To add, if she doesn’t drop it, then it’s her own issue. You’ve made the effort. And this way you’ll know for sure it’s her not you

She can just look at your time charges. Sounds like she has nothing to do. I can’t imagine!

I thought that too of some of the middle eastern and Caribbean island managers I worked with on a job once, but they turned out to be the most supportive and inquisitive. But I feel ya, sometimes you can sense if they'll be hostile toward you. But I don't give af at this point. In the end, they're still professionals working for Big 4 and probably won't dare say anything to you about it, even if it does bother them. Way I see it, ignorant people like that don't go very far working in our industry.

Advice, please! A former coworker in a different industry wants to talk about opportunities in my organization. We haven't talked in several years, but were friendly when we worked together.

The thing is, based on the quality of his work, I really can't recommend him. What would be a diplomatic way to convey this?

Also, If you think there's a better bowl for this query, please let me know. TIA!

I think that Judge Steve Harvey is the best TV show I've ever seen. It's an amazing satire of the judicial process.

Example: Steelers fan destroys Browns fan's jersey. Steve Harvey pays for the replacement jersey himself (this time it's autographed). The Steelers fan is forced to go to 2 browns-steelers games and wear browns attire. What a verdict.
