Additional Posts in Consulting Exit Opportunities
Hi Everyone, I am in the job market for a new job opportunity. I have over 15 years of private equity, consulting, corporate development, and M&A experience. I am based in Atlanta but open to relocation. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I have attached a link to my LinkedIn profile which includes my resume. Thanks so much for your help! https://www.linkedin.com/in/david-s-05527832

This is really sector focused. The Disney team is very well-regraded in Media. For banks, the Strategy team at JP Morgan is well-regarded. For tech, the google team is well-regraded. What is your sector focus?
Thanks. I’ve been pinged by two FS firms, one in Insurance and the other in asset management/trading
More respected = more populated with tier 1 consultants, possibly more impactful in the org, and better exit opportunities (and probably worse WLB but not always). Disney is one, FAANG, etc. But think more of the top companies in a given industry and its likely their strategy roles are prestigious (e.g., entertainment = Netflix, Hulu, Disney, etc.)
Without knowing anything else I'd say that's reasonable. They exited here because they likely thought this to be a more worthwhile opportunity.
At times there are also companies that prefer to hire from certain firms (e.g., I remember being surprised a few years ago to see that quite a few of Warby Parker's strategy team members were ex-Bain)

Note that it’s always better to go to an impactful strategy team with budget. Some banks have smaller teams that are not very influential in the org.
Some things you might want to consider with these roles are:
- Who does the team report to? How much clout does this person have?
- How much C-suite exposure do they get?
- How much influence does the team have in the broader organization?
- What is the growth path for people on the strategy team? Where do people on the strategy team go next (e.g. top roles in the business)?
I don’t think there’s a magic formula for prestige, nor would it be something you want to pay attention to. Think about the industry and the company’s role in the industry. In media, there’s all kind of consolidation/fragmentation - how cool would it be to be on the team that decided to invest in & launch Disney+? Compare this to airlines - a little bit less going on, and less sexy than media or tech in terms of innovation, but could still be cool to join a firm like Delta. Much less cool to join Frontier Airlines which won’t really be doing anything cool. At the end of the day it comes down to what excites you, and which companies can actually see exciting ideas be executed.
Really disagree with some of what you said, frontier airlines not doing something cool? They helped structurally disrupted the entire airline industry for good, you have no idea what you’re talking about haha. Yes delta is a more prestigious team because they are a more prestigious firm, but that is separate from doing cool / impactful work

Op think about this more interns of what sector interests you. Then take a strategy role at a reputable company in that sector.
