I think performative, self-centered 🤡 CEOs like this are the absolute worst. He makes a now-viral post about how he feels bad about layoffs but doesn't even highlight his employees he terminated.
At least the Better.com CEO Vishal Garg didn't pretend he cared about human beings' livelihood...

Firstly, a lot of people have careers that are far from ideal, just gets bills paid, and they don't really care about anything else
Secondly, not everyone is capable of getting their dream career
I'm pretty sure people who say they enjoy PMO either mean that they enjoy having a relatively stable and non stressful job, OR they wanted to be in tech, don't have the technical nor qualitative skills for more exciting roles and therefore convince themselves they like PMO
PMO is for the kids obsessed with organization from elementary school that had the color coded notebooks / stickies / etc. and never missed a homework
Pro
I was/am this child and still resent PMO work. I will gladly organize my own life but can’t stand doing it for other people 🤷🏼♀️
Because it’s easy and you can make a lot of money doing it.
There are some people made for this...they are horrible people. But sometimes they are necessary.

They are probably Capricorns or Virgos
I am super organized! Also a clean freak. My MBTI is the supposedly super organized one (ESTJ) too
But I just apply my organization into my chaotic job and my life instead 😌 being organized doesn't mean I have to be bored!

PMO - it's the quickest and easiest way to get significant amounts of exposure to leadership especially if aligned to a particular business unit. Nature of the role, you tend to be in the know especially re: strategy before others...
This is obvs dependent on where the PMO sits.

I’m in PMO at the moment and tbh it’s great because 1. It’s super chill 2. It does expose you to leadership a lot (mentioned in the replies here too) 3. It looks like your doing a lot when your really not 4. Great WLB.
Forsure it’s boring and requires a type A person (which is rlly funny since I’m extremely not that), but its got a lot of pros - especially when other consultant roles can be so hectic
I’m a PM and love it. Exactly what EY1 said.
See Accenture 1 comment below. It’s all of that

I’m paid $240k/yr at 6.5 YoE to just schedule shit, talk strategy/roadmap, and bump elbows with execs. Work a legit 30 hours a week max and enjoy my teams. Been a pretty comfortable life as a whole tbh.
