Can someone please guide me on things to know beforehand to better plan my onboarding at Deloitte? E.g. stuff about phone expense, good to know things etc. which you wish you would have known before. Is the week of July 4 a firm shutdown week or is it just the July 4 holiday ? I will likely be joining D sometime next month and would appreciate any pointers you all can provide.

First thing is DLaunch. You'll get set up with your email and laptop, have to fill out paperwork, get your badge, and get a healthy dose of lime green Kool-Aid.

You might get staffed on a project right away, or you might have to wait a bit. Depends on your service line. Either way, reach out to your resource manager and let them know you're available.

Your first week, try and knock out as many mandatory training's as you can so you don't have to deal with them later.

Time and Expenses are through DTE. No Concur at D.

You'll get a corporate card. Don't use it for non-business stuff.

You get $1000 a year for Wellness - gym membership, free weights, ski passes, whatever. Use it, it's free money for anything wellness-related.

You get $500 for Hybrid Productivity - monitor, mouse, etc. Use that too, but keep in mind the firm owns whatever you buy.

You get $1000 a year for Hybrid Commuting - parking, Ubers, transit passes. Use it if you're doing any of that.

You book travel through Trips.

You'll go to Deloitte University, the training facility, at some point in your first year. It's pretty cool. I try and go 2-3x a year.

You don't have to go into the office if you don't want/need to.

If anybody hears you say that you're "Deloitted" about anything, you'll be fired on the spot. Well, not really, but people will make fun of you mercilessly about it, possibly forever.

Welcome to the firm!

We have July 1-5 off. When Deloitte does firm shutdowns, they are actual holiday days vs when I was at pwc we had to use some floating holidays or PTO. For the phone expense, you need to run it through the expense system each month, which we didn’t have to do at pwc. Also, Deloitte is super stingy about electronic paraphernalia like dongles and chargers (you need to use your $500 productivity allowance if you want anything) vs at pwc you basically went to IT and could take anything. I think those are the main differences.

Welcome! Some tips - Get a separate phone. Sign up for the American Airlines platinum or delta silver upgrades before you book your first trip so you can start earning miles day 1. Same for hotels. Get Amex corp card on day 1. Pay the $55 for Amex corporate card rewards so you earn that from day 1. Think carefully before signing up for first project, if possible pick something short term so you can get out if it sucks. You will be forced to rollover previous employer 401k and move all your investments to a BDIP approved broker and report all financial holdings for you and your spouse if applicable, so be prepared to do that.

Is it as hard to take PTO as people say? I have a couple of long weekend trips planned (covid willing) in May and June, which is right after I start, but have heard that it’s normal to have to cancel plans due to last minute deals coming in. Any tips??

Will base jump from 120 - 145 make a significant difference in my saving? Offer has significantly less PTO and a lower 401k match. 32F with 400k saved, interested in buying a home soon in HCOL.

Have any of you approached your employer for reimbursement for being asked to use your phone at work? Specifically things like texting your boss while they are in court? I started a new job and am trying to set boundaries but this is one that I cannot set as it is standard practice. In our state, an employer must reimburse you if they direct you to use your personal phone for work. It seems petty, but I’m trying to (rightfully) cash in on something that I would rather not have to do.

Anyone else find it INSANE that PTO does not count towards your billable hour requirement. If you take a week off (40 hours), you’re really not getting paid time off if you have to make up all of that billable time before the end of the year.

Am I missing something or is that just absurd?

Is a daily 1.5 hour commute (total) worth a more supportive work environment and better benefits?
Thinking of jumping ship after just 6 months in a fully remote position for an in-house, in person job where expectation is 5d/week in person. Commute would be around 90minutes/day in interstate. Better salary, good 401k match, parental leave (20 weeks paid), 4wks PTO, and a very big name for the resume. 3 YOE. But I love the flexibility of remote work, so struggling to decide.

Any insight???

I have a hand full of k-5 students who have gone the first half of the school year without music because of remote learning. Our district is moving to 100% traditional teaching after the MLK holiday. Any suggestions for reintroducing concepts to the group of students that’ll be joining us f2f for music the first time this school year?

I have to imagine this uproar about switching to unlimited PTO is just like when companies went from pensions to 401ks. Lots of crying over it at the time but ultimately it will be the norm :(

I’m a man in my early thirties. I’m in a happy relationship, but since the pandemic and my team going fully remote I’ve gotten pretty socially isolated other than my girlfriend, dogs, and some group exercise classes. Trying to put myself out there more as a holiday resolution. I signed up for some meetup groups related to hobbies/professional interests. Any other social platforms/ways to meet people in Denver folks would recommend?

Thanks, and enjoy the holiday weekend!

For the monthly expense reimbursement, how does it work if I choose it for my cellphone, is the amount added to my paycheck or I have to submit my bill each month in the expense account? Thanks

I work in the fashion and beauty retail industry and I honestly feel like my entire career has been me getting gaslighted by companies and bosses, being told I’m not talented when in reality it’s their own miss management, disorganization, lack of accountability and attitude problem that is the issue. I am 31 and it took me my entire 20s to realize this and it’s still happening to me now. The only difference is now I stick up for myself.

Need advice - I have an offer to partner with an FA at my wirehouse. His partner is retiring in 4 years (fully) and they want a junior partner taking his spot.
