Zahra deserves more than consulting

OP, I disagree with most everyone here. I explain this in more detail in my other comment (which isn't a reply to a specific comment), but people here are really underselling the profession, perhaps because they either don't come from a STEM or a public service background. If you have both, firms operating at that intersection (including Deloitte) do amazing work for the country's most well-known institutions every day. From ensuring military readiness to accelerating the NSF's grant making process several fold. People don't understand as much as they should how reliant public and national institutions are on contractors/consultants for their core missions.

like

I would, but I also work at Deloitte, and we both know she can do better.

Speaking as someone who comes from a similar background (ok, maybe not the Glamour Mag stuff, but yes on STEM, published academic papers in top journals, nationally competitive scholarships, did stuff for cool / top tier public sector organizations), all you consultants here are definitely underselling the profession. Would I recommend PMO consulting? Nah. But there's plenty of amazing work, in the analytics and government space in particular, where people leverage their STEM background to do amazing things for this country's most celebrated institutions. Including for NASA too. You just need to be picky about your projects. If she doesn't have analytics experience, I'm sure there are other STEM options. And yes, Deloitte GPS does have this work.

like

Awesome. R would be good for analytics work, and as long as she's willing and driven to learn (I'm sure she is), this is more than enough for a starting point in the consulting part of the field.

Aim for MBB, ACN/ZS also have strong healthcare practices but might not rank as highly

like

Honestly, I have no idea what everyone here means when they say "she can do better". What specific options are you all talking about? As I mentioned in other comments, there's plenty of work that likely aligns with her interests and skills in the healthcare and public sector space. Including work with a national or even global impact. Furthermore, there are plenty of reasons to not go into some of the traditional STEM route (PhD, research, industry, teaching, etc.) and the choice to not go into those options can be a personal one. I feel like there's just a lot of projection going on here. Just because you're on PMO or you're in business strategy that feels meaningless (because it's solely motivated by profits) doesn't mean every other consultant does the same. It's funny because public sector and otherwise mission-driven consulting gets a bad rap here but the moment someone's interests, skillsets, and ambitions might line up perfectly with it, everyone here says "oh no, consultants don't ever do anything she'd be interested in period". Even when that person's resume could fit some roles to a T.

Impressive resume! What line of work is she interested in?

In terms of consulting, she’s looking to be on a healthcare project as a Consultant.

Based on her experience, you should ask her if she's interested in the medical field? I agree with others that she can do better than consulting

I can refer. Send me a DM.

She deserves better than Deloitte 🥲

If she’s in LA and interested in working for a boutique firm I’m happy to help!

Agree she can do better - happy to refer to OW if it interests her at all

No longer at BCG but I sincerely hope things work out for your sister - and for you, since you sound very thoughtful. I went to Michigan as well so happy to be helpful if I can.
