Are you me? I just went off on a partner because he said he was tired of hearing about all of my "extracurriculars." I was like... "Extracurriculars...? Like... My toddler with pneumonia? My husband who also has pneumonia? My bronchitis? The dog I just had to put down? The funeral I had to go to for my aunt? Are these the fun extracurriculars you are talking about?" (I didn't take any time off for any of these things!) People, usually men who have this false sense of understanding because they had kids raised by stay at home moms, don't want to know we are human. I had a lot of the same stuff going on pre pandemic. I just never mentioned it. With the blur of work and home, they've had to hear about it a little more. And I think we are less ashamed or nervous to say, "Hey I can't do that. My kid is home with me and really sick." And it's making them uncomfortable.

I can relate to everything in this post earlier in my career. I had just made manager when I had my first baby and when I returned after just 6 weeks (side note of advice ladies - always take the full maternity leave you are entitled to and DO NOT allow yourself to be pressured into cutting it short) a partner told me to quit talking about my baby. I felt overwhelmed after my 2nd baby and did hire a coach to help me. Reflecting back I think the coach helped me but I don’t think it was necessarily the coaching. It was the fact that I did something that prioritized myself. The fact that I paid for it and scheduled it made me take a little bit of time to truly do something that was investing in myself. I think that is very important for any working mom. I often feel guilty like the time I spend away from my family for work is a luxury and vice-versa without ever stopping to realize that it is okay to take a little time truly for myself.

like

I agree that the self-prioritization is the key. Anyone you pay to help support you and show up as the woman you want to be is well worth the investment - life coach, therapist, morning nanny, professional organizer, an assistant, etc. The guilt and "shoulds" can be loud at first until you realize how much burden is lifted by the time and money investment in putting on your oxygen mask first. Hugs to you too!!! It is TOUGH, there's a reason so many mommas have left the workforce during Covid.

I am a coach!! In fact I am leaving my full time role this fall to open my own coaching practice . Send me a message and we can have a free consult. I can share what coaching is and how it can help. My niche is career moms who are seeking change (career pivot or different boundaries to make it all work). I would be happy to help you if it was a good fit .

Sounds like my life! I don't know if a life coach will help, I think it's making adjustments where you can. When I'm super busy at work, my husband will pick up the slack. Your boss may also need your feedback. Consistently being super busy is a problem and leads to burnout. Oh and cereal for dinner is completely fine sometimes 😉

Left the hubby at home and went to a farm type place today for like six hours. We had a great time. Much easier when I don't have to deal with him waiting in the car, texting that we have to leave in an hour.

Sounds like you have some great recommendations to follow-up with! I honor you for seeking support outside your circle, it's so important to receive unbiased, nonjudgmental support and work on what you can control because that is what we have the power to do! If your interested, feel free to reach out to me as I help women find happiness, and peace in their now while creating the life they desire. I combine personal + professional coaching to create a holistic approach to addressing your challenges! I offer a 60 minute complimentary coaching session so we can see if it's a good fit! DM me if your interested and best of luck on your journey, whatever path you choose!

I've been working late most nights this week. In the office all week despite the WFH policy. Partner has seen me all day. I'm heading out at 5pm to pick my kid up from daycare since my husband has been doing it for me all week. And the partner says we need to catch up before the weekend. Dude. I told you I had to leave at 5pm today. I had another $75 added to my daycare bill this month for being late at pick ups. Don't look annoyed that you didn't come talk to me. I can call you from the car.

I’m thinking of quitting breastfeeding. My baby is 5 months old, and my pump just broke, and I don’t think she’s eating enough and she wakes up all the time at night hungry. I’m just tired of it. I’d rather just give her bottles and call it a day. Ready for my husband to take the night feeds, ready to be able to have a drink without worrying about when I have to feed the baby. The actual breastfeeding has been easy, which is why I feel guilty for “quitting.”

For those who have kids or have decided you want to start having kids, how did you know you were ready to start trying? I’m turning 31 and my husband and I have been married for 8 months. I’ve always wanted to have kids eventually, but I’m having a hard time coming to terms with how much life will change and the sacrifices that have to be made. Maybe it’s because social media has made me acutely aware of the the mom struggle. If anyone has helpful advice to push past the fear, please share!

Earlier this week I was so busy I only pumped three times when I normally pump 6 times. Since then my milk supply fell drastically where I only pump 2 oz each session even if I pump 30 minutes when before I’d be pumping 3.5-5 oz in 15, and it’s been 4 days already. I know it’s silly but I feel sad thinking I won’t be able to feed my baby sufficiently with breastmilk anymore. I’ll supplement but I felt happy being able to provide full breastmilk before and feel a sense of loss now. Just venting
