I’d be having second thoughts. Consider wearing a mask. No downside to that except feeling a bit silly.
Wear a surgical mask on the plane and at the airport bring antibacterial wipes, wipe down your entire seat and everything around you and have hand sanitizer at the ready. Wear the mask from the moment you get out of your car until you’re at your hotel/office room. NEVER EVER EVER TOUCH YOUR FACE Unless your hands have been thoroughly washed.
I’ve been doing this for five years while traveling and while I was pregnant it helps.
If someone close to you on the plane is coughing asked to be moved I do all the time.
You'll likely be fine but I declined a trip to Florida in 2018 due to the (albeit low) risk of Zika virus. However Zika was directly tied to birth defects and I don't believe this virus is. I do think my decision not to travel changed my engagement partner's opinion of me.... But I really didn't care given that the health of my baby was involved. It's your job as a mom to be more concerned about your baby than your partner or anyone else. HR was no help btw. Good luck.
My understanding of the virus is that it is not easily transmitted between humans. It is definitely contagious, but it takes more than just sitting next to a coughing person to catch the virus. Therefore, follow the advice given to wash your hands frequently, especially before eating, etc. But don’t worry that just walking into a room (or plane) with someone will get you sick. If that were true, there would be way more people sick than there are since people have clearly been traveling with it.
Your point stands, but it sounds like “super spreader” refers to a person who is infected and manages to infect others more easily than everyone else who is infected, not necessarily the virus itself. And the super spreader in this case infected healthcare workers during surgery, so it’s a different situation still.
Any new thoughts on this as the cases start to increase?
Wait...I’m also pregnant and was going to fly to NY with my 2 yo this weekend. Should I be concerned? I thought there was only one US case in WAS?
I’m pregnant and flying in/out of NY this weekend. Current advice is to follow standard cold/flu season procedure - cover your cough, wash hands a ton, don’t touch surfaces or your mouth/face.
I cancelled my trip to Japan that I had planned for two weeks in early March, just no longer worth the risk for me even if it stays the same.
