I’d laugh if I saw 24/25 year old VP/Director at a reputable firm.
@Kearney - not calling it an accomplishment but company has a $30B market cap so not small and I also had director offers at Fortune 500s. I was 3.5 years out of grad school but only about 4.5 years total work experience.
It’s not impossible but most hiring managers aren’t going to look at that candidate as somebody who has the manager level consulting toolkit yet. It’s less about tenure in terms of years on a page, and more about proving you can deliver in the role. A new EM regardless of tenure is going to have a harder time selling their experience at the VP/Director level than a manager with 1-3 years behind them at the manager level. And a 3 year EM at McK doesn’t have prior industry or other experience that can help them stand out in the process.
The upside is, the talented person who became an EM in 3 years at McKinsey will likely be very well positioned for those roles after 1-2 years of managing projects.
