Can we all agree that we’re blessed to even have the ability to WFH instead of being outright laid off? With every passing day my will to do unspeakable things to keep my golden-handcuff job increases

I’ll work 15 hours a day if I have to. I’ll forgo my bonus this year. Whatever... Anyone losing a job right now or in the next few months is in for a VERY rough ride.

Well said. My dad, heart attack recently and diabetes, is out driving a truck to have next month’s mortgage. My mom just fell ill. I am a single mom of two kids quarantined at home and working my ass off. I feel more blessed than I ever have.

Wow hang in there! But don’t burn out too. Take care ❤️

I’m honestly being a much better worker while wfh. So much less exhausting.

I am so grateful for my current company, but another startup company in AI/cyber security is offering me a really good offer. They are doubling down on growth and believe the virus will make people invest more in AI. Does this sound good? Total comp 190k plus stock options. My current company passed me up for promotion and will prob have less or little opportunities.

That sounds good to me!

I feel layoffs coming...maybe not but I think all forms are analyzing the impact on our business.

Wow what a blessing! Thousands are dying, were in a bear market, and we no longer have social lives but at least we can work from home!

You may be ironic but that’s exactly it. Everyone’s losing but we are losing a lot less. Imagine what you’d be doing right now if you owned a small restaurant.

Not proud of it, but I was hooking up with a co-worker/friend pre-COVID. I left the state when wfh started and we still talk every day, but nothing romantic. He made it clear at the beginning that he didn’t want to date because we’re co-workers. Stung a bit when I went on a dating app this morning and saw his profile. The rational part of me knows we’re only ever going to be buddies and that if he actually wanted me, then he’d make something happen. Looking for advice on how to get over this.

For companies that will adopt more remote positions, do you think they’ll start offering candidates slightly lower salaries for the privilege of WFH full time?

In a world of remote consulting work…. How long can the US maintain its high premium over European and, esp. developing market consulting? Both price tag to clients and significantly higher salaries for the people. I imagine may move faster at Big 4, etc. than MBB, but within MBB the huge cost and salary differentials feel… increasingly hard to maintain (even though I think the differential has actually gotten bigger, not smaller in the last two years). Thoughts?

I really wish it were possible as a Senior to take a "quiet" or remote day every week and focus on work uninterrupted. I get that it would be a challenge for staff/mgrs but think it would be worth it.

I asked a vice chair in my group to talk informally about working remotely going forward (we already are remote now and was largely flexible pre covid) and also a possible pay bump. This is my first salary/work benefit negotiation and I’m so nervous I might just unhire myself before we actually get to talk 😭😭

What are peoples opinions on work from home? It seems to be an unpopular opinion but as a junior I despise it. I work 3 feet from my bed, I find the barriers of a phone/email between me and a senior to add a huge amount of stress to my life and I think it’s stunting my career development at my firm because I can’t build relationships as effectively. I’ve never at all had mental health issues before but now am really starting to feel burnt out and anxious most of the time. What do you think?

So my clerkship ended almost a year ago, and I’ve been in private practice since then. The firm I work for now was retained to perform an independent HR investigation. This investigation happens to be on a topic that is currently being litigated. That litigation is before my old boss. I and my supervisor thought this wouldn’t be an issue because I wasn’t appearing before the judge but during a hearing yesterday, they said on the record I can’t be a part of the investigation as it’s “too close”

My hunch is tech startups, maybe traders, but idk... Asking consulting bowl cause no one else gets as much cross-industry exposure. And hey, maybe consulting still wins out!
