Can you book flight, hotel for personal usage using company tools? Not going to expense them obviously, but is it ok?

At KPMG it's okay

like

OP I'm pretty sure we're discouraged from doing so, not 100% though. For hotels you can use the EY corporate code (eyc) on their website

like

We're allowed to, in fact it's encouraged as it boosts our overall spend leverage for firm-level negotiations with hotels and airlines.

like

Nope. You are required to enter a project code for your bookings...And if they use red font to emphasize that point on our booking portal, you should listen to it.

like

Sounds like you are asking if there are consequences not if it's ok.

like

Do you need to book a hotel or a car? You can use our corporate rate code to do it. Our flight savings are minimal, like <$10. I'm sure people use our travel portal to book personal travel without getting into trouble, but is it really worth finding out if there are consequences?

like

Usually flights are more expensive on EY.. Hotels and Cars you can use the corporate code if they accept but not through the portal.

like

Well many time we book using a code but eventually claim with another code. Happens with me a lot of time.

Has anyone been in trouble doing this? I don't see what can be the problem.

Agree EY2. Sometimes I see flights being $75-$100 cheaper. Only during that I think about it but haven't booked it.

That makes sense. Not sure why someone will discourage business

Yeah I don't understand the reasoning behind it. Maybe it messes with their tracking. Maybe because people were abusing it and trying to expense personal travel? Idk, likely a few people ruined it for everyone else.

To con't the conversation on engagement rings💍 - what do they symbolize to you? My BF and I got into a discussion about this last night. He views them as an investment and an "asset" on the books for his future family. He also has grandparents who had to finance their trip to America by selling their jewels. I see the ring as more of a gift to the future bride that is an expense that can be sold for money if needed, but isn't an investment. I'm fine w/ lab grown, he is not. Thoughts?

At a former company, they let you expense $20 for working 10+ hours in a day, but you could never use it because it would always be rejected. Recently started at a new firm, and I had a rough week last week (two 14+ hour days). New firm has a similar policy, so I asked. Was told not to submit the $20 reimbursements. Just as I was about to get frustrated, he told me I should get dinner for my wife and me. Only rule was to keep it under $100. Don't like working 14 hour days, but this was nice.

In these times, if your referral bonus is $1k or less for seasonal employees you are asking for: 1. Employees who put in work to refer people that end up negotiating a part time option don't work on referring anyone else. 2. If the potential new hire gets an offer, employees have 0 incentive to convince them to accept it. This can even lead to them giving negotiation tips which get the new hire a $5-10k higher offer. They may even recommend accepting a diff firm's offer straight up.

I have a manager who doesn’t seem to like me very much. Talks to me in a super condescending tone like I wasn’t an experienced hire & know what I’m doing. He will flat out ignore me even on calls when I say hi or good morning. I’m not sure if it’s because he’s “old school” but once had other team mates in his office (all male) for lunch and didn’t invite me (the only female on this team). I thought I had a super progressive team but every day is telling me that’s not the case.
