I really don’t see why it should be hidden. Federal contracts are public record, and describing what a public agency does will make it comically obvious which agency it actually is.
Cops aren't going to show up if you do but I think you should avoid it.
Some places take it as “well they will do the same to me” and not like it. You can fudge it so there isn’t any doubt when explaining the work.
You can but you shouldn’t. Think of a way to describe your work without naming the specific agency, office, or department.
I name all clients and would unless they're classified.
It depends. I've had clients where if you googled me, you'd find my name on something the client put out. I'm going to talk about that client. I've had clients where you wouldn't, and where it doesn't add anything to the conversation to specify which military service I was working for, so I'm not going to. I think some people are overly fussy about this topic -- if it's public that your firm got a contract with a particular office, that you worked on it a few years ago is unlikely to reveal anything to anyone.
Don't be specific. Example, DHS but don't name the agency within DHS.
