Can you still do M&A if you hate reviewing contracts? I’m a first year, and while I like a lot of the work so far, I absolutely despise diligence and reviewing contracts. Should I be exploring other groups?

No one likes diligence. I think the more pertinent question is whether you like drafting contracts. This is what you will work towards. If you don't even think you'd like drafting then yes, I'd say think about a different practice.

like

Think of it as a stepping stone. A lot of drafting skill comes after you having gone thru a loooottttta diff types of contracts.

Can you be a litigator if you hate doc review?

You’ll grow out of doing the grunt work in diligence eventually

like

Honestly, no. Understanding contracts means understanding the transaction parties’ goals and being able to offer proactive solutions. Learn to understand the power of contracts if you want to be able to provide good M&A advice.

FWIW I hated contracts in law school and I enjoy them now because they got me to doing interesting work.

M&A becomes fun about 3rd/4th, and it sucks 1st/2nd year. You have to gut it out. But it's a lot of emergencies ad a ot of hours.

I’ve spent 4 years in Big 4, with about half that time in FDD. I feel like Corp Dev is what I ultimately want, but am wondering if a stint in banking could be worth it. If I’m not interested in PE or other buyside alternatives, is the pit stop in IB worth it?
Mainly wonder if IB is a must have box to check, or if you can work your way up the ladder without.

Any suggestions for how to get into a consulting position? I am seeking a medical device consultant role. Not sales, rather teaching, training, consulting. I’ve been contacted by a few consulting companies that match up an “expert” with the company that needs consulting. However, these are few and far between. Love to make it a permanent gig.

I’ve been a data analyst for a little over a year for my current employer. I manage databases, input new information, solve issues utilizing root-cause analysis, and I maintain reports on a daily basis. The only thing I don’t do is work with coding such a SQL. I’m currently enrolled in Coursera Google Data Analytics Certification to learn more about SQL.
I want to get a job in data analytics that uses SQL. How do I show that I know SQL without having direct SQL related work experience?

Exhausted from all the linked lists I had to reverse this week.

So they recently upped the quota of linked lists we need to reverse this month to 56 (a 34% increase!) and I'm not sure my team can keep up the pace. We're working as fast as we can but pointing the nexts takes a lot of focus, and we're just worried the higher ups are sacrificing the quality of these linked lists for quantity.

What should I do???

Seriously, can anyone take the affirmative and tell me who notices...or talks about...or benefits from awards anymore from a business perspective? Even the obvious one—the prospect of creatives scoring their next job off of them—seems iffy these days.
