I've only seen a PIP end in termination. My sample size is small, less than 5, but that's been my experience.
Do I believe it's possible to turn around? Yes.
Do I think that firms actually cut you a lot of slack before putting you on PIP and are using it as a device to warn you about the upcoming termination? Also yes.
If you are on PIP, use this time to apply and interview for as many jobs as possible. You'll hear some stories about people going from PIP to Partner, but vast majority just gets terminated.
I am an example of someone who turned it around and am excelling now. You can do it. Put in the hard work, get a mentor and backers in your corner.
You can definitely turn it around if you actually choose to improve where needed. I was a low-mid performer as a staff and just made manager (on the normal track). I got harsh reviews and had very blunt conversations with my counselor and it all worked out.
I have worked with team members that went from having an improvement plan when they were young to principal. If a plan is done right, it can be the catalyst to a long and successful career.
Not on PIP just keep getting poor reviews despite meeting deadlines etc.
why are you getting bad reviews then? what level are you

I've seen both. Everyone loves a good redemption story if you can truly pivot and grow. If not, then, well you know
I've seen people turn it around, but it's hard because you have to convince the village
