I got H1B Visa and 83000 USD dollar petition amount as annual package.I am confused as this amount will be enough to survive there with wife and 7 year old daughter. My wife is working here and together we are earning 50LPA annual. We are settled here by owning house too.Confusion is my wife will not be able to work there on H4 Visa so the kind of life we are living here will not be possible there.Thoughts?Suggestions?Pros and Cons?

Can anyone tell me what the salary range is for Monitor Deloitte senior consultants in the UAE? Also I have a SC offer from PwC healthcare (not strategy &) and currently also interviewing with Monitor so according to you all which of the two is better across WLB, growth, culture, quality? Thanks!

1. Find a partner in your office that you can trust and get them to help with introductions to the office you’re looking at applying to. To the extent you can, find potential connections at your target office to try and speak with and get a feel for the culture. Quite a significant difference in the Canadian office I worked at and the US office I transferred to.
2. They will sponsor L1s. Go for L1A and not L1B or TN.
3. Didn’t take a title cut but that was negotiated in advance. US firms typically require one additional year of experience to promote to manager when compared to Canadian firms. Note that there may be requirements at certain levels that require specific US certification, such as the CPA, to be promoted past certain levels.
The US experience so far has been incredible. YMMV. Good luck!
Would you happen to know how many years do you need to start the green card process? I’m a little concerned about the 1 employer nature of L1 and worry that I’ll get stuck if I later hate it
I went Canada Big 4 FDD -> MM FDD. Tried going internally, they took their sweet time. Told them I got an offer at a better firm and they started scrambling. I faded them.
Got my TN visa, it’s super simple. I literally wrote my own visa application.
Big benefit to my career. Went from 64k CAD in 2021 to now making 130k + bonus + equity (I left the MM firm for a start up)
Went from EY Canada to EY USA, L1A visa, no title cut but went from M3 to M1. Didn’t care cause I doubled my pay.
I flew down for interviews after partner in Canada made the introduction to some partners in the US. Heard back after 1.5 weeks and got the offer a month later.
4 years cause I restarted back to M1.
Yeah did L1A as a SM2. No change in title but I went from HCOL in Canada to MCOL in US and the pay jump was minor in real terms. 5 years later no regrets and I have my GC. Oh and while I had great relationships in Canada, I did my own outreach to people in target offices and got myself an offer first before disclosing broadly. By process I should have informed ahead of time of my interest but my counselor (MD) didn't care and it all worked out.
thats awesome to know appreciate all the info EY1!
Is the pay in Canada big 4 lower generally in Your experiences?
Pro
Audit/tax is closer to 30% when not considering FX. New grads are at 60k in toronto now
TN visa, switched big 4 at manager level M2 to M1 FDD TC went from $110k CAD to 200k USD ~ 270k CAD. I also have better wlb in the US than I did in Toronto.
Thanks so much EY2. Clear much air for me as someone who’s debating to come back to US or no.
