Jeez OP. SC1 and EY1 are just trying to help you. They’re telling you there have been other posts, and EY1 very helpfully synthesized the main points from other posts for you.
Your response should have been “thank you”
97k USD Dallas,TX to 110k CAD Toronto, ON.
Ok, No offense but I am looking for inputs from people who have actually made the move. I am pretty sure I know more about this than you as I am also in US and therefore have the US bias in my thought process. This question is part of research I am doing
I have had a 22~24% cut apples to apples. Went from SC at Big4 at USD 135k to Manager at a specialist firm at CAD 135k. No change in standard of living, still pay US tuition loans. Live in North York, 2-bed 2 bath in a nice condo steps away from the subway. Spouse is still looking for work, and we have a 3-year old.
Also will appreciate if anyone can post links to previous discussions
MC1- did you find a job before moving ?
I used to be at Deloitte too. Lemme know if you have questions
hahaha OP, BCG1 was right about you. Not only are you wayyyy off with that last statement, I am surprised you are even in consulting with that level of analysis / research skills. People making far less than 200k own apartments in Downtown Toronto.
Will be great if you can share lessons learnt and things you wish you knew before making the move to Canada?
Search the bowl. Many threads on this topic
Here is a gist from other posts, 30-40% lower overall pay, better WLB, fewer opportunities compared to the US, easier path to citizenship.
SC1 and EY1 are guys now based in CAnada?
Nope! In the US.
Oh man, didn’t mean to come across as rude. Appreciate everyone’s input and I should have clarified this is my question that I was looking for inputs from people you have actually made the move. I have seen that folks who have not made the actual move usually provide response on two things, paycut and no visa issues
You will pay higher taxes but dont underestimate the advantages of state provided healthcare and schooling. Unlike US, you wont have to live in a richer neighbourhood for good schools. Strong sense of community Indian/Pakistani, Toronto is much more diverse than any major US city. Shorter route to citizenship.
also if you are big4 and interested in Partner track, the route is shorter here than in the US
if you are a single income or Dual income No Kids couple (DINK), US is better...save and move to Canada once you have kids and they are not in school yet.
M1 agree, you can build corpus here in US. It will be hand to mouth with CAD$200K in Toronto. Don’t think you can even afford a house with this salary in Canada
Or take 2 vacations a year
MC1: relax dude, just trying to get an estimate. And nothing wrong with expressing my opinion (which may be wrong due to lack of factual information). I am not disputing any facts with my post above.
And my comment for CAD200k is based on family of 4 with household income of 200k. Not sure how one can really afford apartment in downtown Toronto and afford 2 family vacations with this considering low PPP of CAD compared to USD and higher taxes and COL in Toronto
