Take it from someone who is still paying off student loans 10 years post college...do everything you can to get rid of the debt. Stay in Canada for a couple years, develop a plan to pay it off. California will still be there 2 years from now when you’re making a little more money and can manage living expenses and paying down the debt at the same time.
Why would you want to come to America? Factor in costs like healthcare etc that you wouldn’t have in Canada as well
From a fellow Canadian, I would recommend paying off the student debt first. Don’t know how much your debt is, but I’m sure it can be paid off in 1-2 years max while staying at home. If you’re able to maintain contact with people st the California office, the opportunity would still be there down the road.
It's not just what you make. It's what you keep. Everything in California is expensive. Housing, gas, income tax. It's just a terrible place to start out if your goal is to be financially independent.
but the experience is tempting. Which is wise option, staying or moving? Really prefer to pay back debts before early 30s.
No, I’m asking what part of California would you move to? SF or LA? LA is cheaper.
Stay in Canada. This is just the unfortunate economic situation our generation is in
Thanks everyone!
What part of California
Go anywhere but California if you are trying to pay off debt first.
What is tempting you to come to America?
Thinking about going to Canada from pwc US...
Pay off the debt. You will be much happier in the long run. Being in debt is like slavery. You find yourself doing things you don't want to do just because you have bills to pay. Check out Mr. Money Moustache.
From what i have seen in the comp threads is that Canada straight up pays significantly less
