Clinton was hated by many voters in 2016 and people were told that Trump wasn’t going to win. Republicans were told that Trump was all rhetoric and would “calm down” when he became president. We have seen Trump as president and many Rs have turned against him (Lincoln project, et al). With COVID and the BLM protests, people are fired up against Trump and are turning out to vote. So 2020 is different than 2016 in many ways. And hopefully the polling methodology has been refined (although people didn’t understand that an 88% chance of winning didn’t mean a 100% chance of winning).

But who knows at this point, and I can’t even with 4 more years of nonsense.

Im not looking to get into an argument, but if you really want to know why I voted for Trump I will tell you.
First off, unfortunately, I am not a wealthy person, not even close to 400k, but that being said I don’t think raising taxes during a recession, even if it’s just on wealthy people and US companies, makes much sense, but that’s not the main reason I voted for Trump.

Although I do not appreciate most of Trump’s personality, from a policy standpoint I am actually quite pleased. I think the TCJA was long overdue and improved the country’s competitiveness against other countries. Also, canceling NAFTA and enacting the USMCA was very important. The fact that he is the first president in living memory to not get the country entangled in another foreign war was a huge one for me, when the Democrats criticized him for pulling US troops out of Syria I thought I was in the twilight zone! Btw, Biden voted to go to war in Iraq. Also, Trump stood up to China in a way that no other president has since Eisenhower, they are committing genocide and Biden doesn’t even mention it.

His progress on peace deals is what really put me over the edge though. On that front he is at least as impressive as Jimmy Carter if not better.
He is far from perfect, and I was certainly not happy about him winning 4 years ago but his accomplishments are impressive, and enough to earn my vote this time.

I hope this helps you understand how I got here. Stay safe all, it’s almost over 🥳

I don't think we will know on Tuesday, because of the mail in ballots.

like

My guess is Biden will win due to a huge record turn out. I think Trump will be close in so many states but just barely miss resulting in a bigger victory than actual due to increased voting from absentee ballots. Trump fans will come strong and vote in person Tuesday.

Two good scenarios.

1 Trump wins outright
2 trump loses but Republican keep the senate and hobble Biden’s presidency. Republicans retake house in 2022 and an even worse but more charismatic character arrives for 2024. This character forces a change in the electorate permanently placing democrats in the minority with no path to victory. Massive taxes a levied against social media companies for their treasonous behavior and none of them leave cause they’re really weak people

There were absolutely some mistakes with polling in 2016, but the issue is less about polls being wrong and more about people not understanding statistics well enough to be able to interpret them accurately. Besides, the outcome last time was within the margin of error, so they really weren’t wrong.

Still, I agree that it’s going to take time for us to really know the outcome, which is not doing good things for my anxiety.

like

I agree.

9 point margin in national polls versus 2-3 points for clinton last time around. Also with the late breaking comey letter versus this time around with half the vote already in.

A biden win is not a 100% certainty nor a 99% one. But if you believe in polling and statistics you should have a strong sense this time around.

Either way, just glad it’s over. Ready to stop hearing about socialism if Biden wins or a dictatorship if Trump wins lol personally I think Biden wins but I wouldn’t put any amount of $ on it.

like

The polls have largely corrected mistakes from 2016, and even if the polls are as wrong (in favor of Trump) as they were in 2016, Biden would still win. I’m mainly worried about Pennsylvania not coming in Tuesday night

I think there are just as many shy Biden voters in red states as there are silent Trump voters in blue states. Hoping for a landslide, but with voter suppression tactics, militias and white supremacists out in force, I have no idea what will happen.

likefunny

Biden will win. Not because he's a great candidate that people are excited about. Mostly because a lot of people hate trump, in the same way that many people voted for trump in 2016 solely because they hated Hillary.

like

Running Hillary was absolutely ridiculous. I’m glad they learned from that mistake.

I have no idea who will win. Both sides are energized and voting in record numbers. Polls are showing candidates within a couple points of each other.

I do feel that Biden's campaigning has been pretty lackluster compared to Trump's rallies in the last month. Trump went to a dozen places just this weekend. But Biden is clearly getting support online and polls are in his favor.

I wouldn't bet money on this election.

Feel like the “silent majority” isn’t a thing anymore. My guess is Biden. Trumps holding these rallies in counties that have the same populations as a city neighborhood.

If Biden wins Florida early that’s likely a sign. Otherwise I’ll come down to Pennsylvania and the Midwest states and we know that will be days.

“First election where I really have no idea”

Really? Right now biden is up 9 points in national polling averages. This is more than 2016, 2012, 2008, 2004, and 2000 all elections you presumably knew the outcome?

Last time there was a 9 point difference was 1996 for clinton vs. dole; clinton won in a mega landslide by 379 electoral votes.

I get that these things are never 100% certain but your claim of knowing every other election but this one is frankly stupid.

like

It’s not the silent majority that skews the polls it’s the people that outright lie and say they support Biden for appearance sake (because being a republican has come to mean bad person), but actually vote for Trump.

smart

Key differences from last time:
1. People hated Hillary, people don’t have the same level of hate for Biden.
2. Some Bernie supporters backed Trump instead of Hillary, not quite the same this time around.
3. Trump has shown his true colours. It’s flat out 🍊
4. Many voters see that electing trump resulted in 200k+ american deaths.

Why is there so much hate amongst the South Asian countries? It doesn’t matter what the past is, can we just put it all behind and move on to create a better future for our children. We have so many CEOs, Govt heads, Heads of major institutions who are South Asians, and we cannot do more for our countries peace and well-being?
