Car related question: has anyone ever purchased (or know someone who has) purchased a car from a rental company? Would you advise/suggest it?

I’ve been looking at a lot of hertz cars. The “never buy a rental cause people treat them like crap” is over simplified in my mind. I wouldn’t buy a convertible or sports coupe because of that possibility but a family minivan or SUV is probably not getting trashed by Mr and Mrs Smith carrying around there 3 kids. Additionally 80% of my rentals are for work where I’m chauffeuring another employee or client and I’m not hot rodding it around. I think that’s the population of the vast majority of sedan renters. A portion of the potentially extra wear and tear is offset by the over servicing that rental companies perform. I saw a 2020 SUV with 4K miles that had already had 3 oil changes and the 10k mile checkpoint.

Not a perfect example, but I bought a loaner car (e.g., the car you borrow when you’re getting work done) from a dealership before. Had 7,000 miles on it at the time. 12 years later and it still works like a charm! Never had a single issue.

I bought a previous rental car. Wasnt even on purpose. I was inexperienced and didnt know how to check for it or that I even should. Turned out to be the best most reliable car. Sold the car at 130k miles as I was moving. Never had to put a single $ in other than oil and tires. Regular stuff

I wouldn't pay top dollar for it knowing they have excess inventory and the potential for hard miles on it but they do service the cars regularly unlike some people so if the deal is there I'd consider it.

I been following hertz inventory (specifically 3rd row SUVs) for a couple weeks now. Looks like everything is in the bottom range of KBB and some are 10% below the low point. Haven’t taken the plunge yet, might see how they end up comparing to dealerships 4th of July sales. Most dealerships appear to be at high end of KBB range

Hello Fishes, How’s the salary payout put on hold when putting resignation in EY GDS? For example, If I’m putting paper after 20th of this month(September), will I get salary this month? Or will it be on hold for full notice period? Also, after the separation how long will it take EY to process the Full & Final settlement?

What is your why ? PE / Growth / HF jobs are super hard, demanding, stressful, long hours. Yes they make a ton of money (say probably $500k-$1mm per year in your 30s if reasonably successful) - but that’s probably more than what’s reasonably required to live well ? Am in the middle of interview process for quite a big job, and wondering what drives me… I’m competitive but beyond that I don’t see much.

Recently joined a consulting firm and have a corporate AmEx now. I am planning on paying the $95 fee to get the points from corporate expenses. I also have only a chase sapphire preferred. Is it worth picking up a Gold or Platinum card to pool all the points in one place? I eat out a lot and mostly redeem points for statement credit or the occasiaonl hotel room (use Marriott). Don’t do a ton of personal flying. Thanks in advance.

At a V10 and have zero visibility into realized rate, productivity levels, etc. We have a target hours level and advance if we hit it. Are our realizations rates available to the higher ups but not shared with us? If you consistently work with a partner or two who has to write off hours because of poor budgeting, how do you know if that reflects negatively on you? Is this even a concern in the major firms?

I am going to move to a well reputed organization from a budding startup after working in it for more than 2 years. What is the percent of hike I can expect if I was working below par in startup expecting it to grow and be part of the management when it would be big. How should I negotiate and put forward my point. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Well, at least they gave my almost 30 years of award—winning leadership and experience in this business a WHOLE 60 SECONDS before the heartfelt, robo-generated rejection letter. I don’t pretend to be perfect for every job, but jeez, come on algorithm/recruiters..do better! (Pics: first screen grab, notification that they opened my application/profile/resume: 11:04am; second screen grab, rejection: 11:05am). 😂😂
