I’m waiting for my background check as I accepted an offer for Remote Licensed Insurance Customer Service Rep. While I’m a 1099 for my current role, I still haven’t told them I am leaving for a full time role that can change my life. It’s a small agency, and I’ve gotten close with the director. She’s the employment reference I gave; I’m a nervous that when they receive the call to verify employment, my days will be difficult. I’d hate to be let go before I start with LM. Thoughts? Yes, you should check out claims handling, vehicle appraiser or underwriting.
Yes, you can break in with no degree, especially if you have business experience. May have to start lower on the ladder than you'd like, but I would think you wouldn't have trouble mastering the necessary skills outside of what you already know. Totally possible
With that much business experience, it's not impossible. Perhaps it would be best to acquire certifications and other designations. Maybe you can start with a role as a Claims Examiner.
You absolutely can get into insurance with no degree! I started my insurance career as a Commercial Property Claims Adjuster Trainee at a mid-sized national carrier (a Berkshire Hathaway company based in Wilkes-Barre, PA) with no experience and a degree in Communication Studies. Best decision I’ve ever made! Many carriers offer entry level claims positions. That would be my recommendation!
Sure - you (now) don't have to have a degree to be a Claims Specialist in the industry's oldest and largest auto insurance company. That should give you enough info to figure out which one 😂. But I would not recommend it as the company gave potentially the largest CEO bonus in history, for year 2021, during a hiring freeze. Oh, and raises for claims handlers did not exceed 1% on the high side.
Meanwhile claims adjusters are attempting to manage to workload of 2 -3 people. The current mandate is to cut costs at every possible opportunity. Burnout is rampant, early retirement is steamrolling and for most the pension they have been building is the only reason to stay and ride this out.
Wait. So what is your background? It's impossible to answer this without knowing your professional experience other than "25 years of business experience". That being said, that's a ton of experience in whatever you do, which is a great start lol
I’d consider looking into roles for Surety, Construction, etc to leverage your experience. I think you could do very well with that kind of knowledge, whether brokerage or underwriting.
Yes, you can definitely work in the insurance field with no college degree. I'd say that having an international dimension attached to your professional background is a must. Back Office position in Claims/Production is a great way to start !
Farmers hires with no degree….
Hello, OP! What was your previous job? Yes, it is possible especially if your previous job is somehow related to insurance or sales. Your 25 YOE is notable.
