I’ve seen people move around plenty, edit to copy, copy to art, the industry experience means a lot once you’re in it regardless of the role itself. Having first hand knowledge of how one facet impacts a project should help you stand out. Best of luck!

Before you transition, imagine the power you could have as the only copywriter who is organized. Almost all of us are all over the place. My wife has to remind me to tie my shoes. Being so put together that you're actually considering being a PM could be your superpower as a writer.
Damn, it’s a good point. Didn’t think about this; being a creative is a real privilege. I’ll offer a few rebuttals:
1. I’m not THAT good of a writer and honestly don’t have enough passion to sustain the grind and reach a high level
2. I can do both but fear that the dual role would only would be an asset at my current agency (tiny design shop with poor processes). If I went to an agency with real structure in place, what value would I offer? Since I’d have spent years not getting good at either.
3. This is all to say that I’m not even married to the agency world. Happy to explore in house roles where PM might be more hands-on.
Thanks guys!

I think having the copywriting background would be super helpful, and I’ve seen colleagues make a similar transition. It works well because they have a great idea of what teams need and how they best need info presented to them in order to do their best work. Experience in doing/producing work also helps with developing realistic timelines and budgets.
Best of luck!
