Curious for people’s thoughts on where I should be focused:

30yo, all figures combined for 2ppl:

-$325k household income

-$150k student debt (mix of mba and undergrad)
-$30k misc debt (car, credit card, personal loans)

-$35k in 401k savings
-$2.5k in HSA savings
-$1.5k investment account
-$8k cash savings

Didn’t do so strongly in our 20s (worked at nonprofits, spent outside our means), but want to spend our 30s getting financially secure. Where should we start? Pay down debt? Start saving?

Hello. I am a Sr. Systems (Management) Analyst (equivalent to a Sr. Software Engineer), promoted to this position in 2019, from a Software Engineer position. I am doing really well and I always get great annual performance feedback. I work for a health insurance giant, that has a headquarters in MN (😉), but I am based in IN, with 10YOE total. I'm wondering how much I should be making, and if it is high time to ask for a raise or look for other opportunities and jump ship.

Is this weird: while staying with my boyfriend’s family, I had to take a shower in the master bathroom.

My boyfriend’s mom made me wait so she could clear out all of her shower and bath products from the ledges inside the shower.

I had used that bathroom and seen that shower before; it was not an issue of clutter or mess, nor did she have any private or weird products.

Did she think I was going to use them? Why would someone do that?

I plan on continuing to contribute to this $ for the next 2ish years to build up a home down payment + emergency fund in the same account.

Newbie question re short term vs long term gains:

Hypothetical: I buy 100 shares in June and another 100 shares in September, so 200 shares in hand now.
I have to wait to sell the first 100 shares until past June 1 year anniversary to avoid short term gains tax, right? And also wait till after September for the next 100 shares, right?

What about dividends that were reinvested on a rolling basis throughout the year? Every new fractional share has a new, different one year anniversary point?

I own 2 RE properties and just as much in stocks but there seems to be a lot of talk about another crash. I’m not selling anything but I’m considering stockpiling cash to look for entrance opportunities, especially in RE.
