Occasionally you’ll want to pop it in the oven for an hour at 350 after oiling to re-season but otherwise your care regimen is solid. Remember that the brush is only to take the big stuff off. You don’t want be scrubbing off the layer of carbon. If you are seeing grey metal, you’ve scrubbed way too much and need to re-season.
A gentle soap like Dawn that is biodegradable and won’t leave behind a film is safe to use if you want but you’ll need to re-season more frequently. It’s not necessary though. I like to do it when there’s been animal fats in the pan because those can go rancid or if there’s a lot of grease left behind from what I was cooking.
Bought a cast iron pan, used once, couldn’t clean it, threw it in box somewhere.😒

I usually heat water in mine on the stove to lift the food, then wash it in the sink with no soap. That might help if you're scrubbing yours too much.
Ditto
Nope!
Use kosher salt to scrub. Apply oil. Bake. There’s tons of YouTube’s. Never ever use soap.

Seconded — kosher salt is an ideal abrasive
Amazon has chain mail scrubbers that won't damage the lab but work well to remove burned on food. I use some hot water, kosher salt, and the chain mail on mine. If the chain mail gets to gross you can throw it in the dishwasher.
Yes, also use chain mail scrubber with the salt. I also don’t do this every time since mine are very seasoned.
I also love The Ringer from Amazon and my cast iron. Season with a very light layer of oil after every cleaning or right before cooking too.
I found getting the pan really hot again after cooking then immediately run under hot water will release any stuck on grime. I scrape with a flat wooden spatula and it gets the job done. Never had to use salt again.
Second the chainmail- you may not be getting everything off with the brush. Scrub with chain mail under hot water, wipe down with rag, then put on hot stove to get any excess moisture off, then apply a thin layer of oil and take off heat just as it begins to shimmer/smoke.
I've had mine for over 5 years, don't think I've ever really cleaned it more then just scraping it out
Yeah you forget to cover it in dirt, piss on it and THEN you apply the vegetable oil. You’ll get it.
