Sorry I can't help, but just have to say of course this is a question in the big law bowl.

See if your cat is into leather. Mine scratches all upholstery and carpet but doesn’t give a shit about leather. I bought a small leather ottoman first to check and when she left it alone after a few months, we ordered a custom leather sofa from American Leather. She hasn’t touched it. I’ve also had luck with WestElm’s performance velvet.

‘Cat into leather’. Lol.

I’d suggest placing scratching posts nearby and trying sticky paws furniture strips/tape for a while so they don’t get used to scratching it. My cat took it off with his teeth though when he got annoyed. Could work for less stubborn cats :)

or fabric covers? have new couch but in fear i have draped it with bedsheets

Love sac. I have two cats. Their stuff has removable covers and is entirely washable and the fabric I chose isn’t too conducive to scratching. It’s not “high end” though (price wise comparable to many other couches).

My cat doesn’t scratch velvet/velveteen-type material. I had a pottery barn sofa that he never touched. Conversely, he scratched the hell out of leather.

like

Put a lot of scratching posts around the couch and they won’t scratch it. Seriously. Give them something more enticing to scratch.

Double sided tape for a couple of weeks helped me. Then an organic spray. He stopped and started using a scratcher. If all else fails you can get covers made for scratching and let them have at it

We just purchased the HAY mags sofa and it’s held up quite well against our two bengals.

I’m starting to think that almost everything I do, outside of marking up an agreement, is completely inefficient and a waste of my time. For example, partners ask me to take hours to catch them up on our client’s business in addition to drafting all docs - isn’t that something you should know, partner? And if not, too lazy to get to know your client yourself?

Is it harder to meet billables in certain practice areas? I’m in T&E and in busy times I’ll be working on 15 different clients in a single day. I feel like I lose so much time task-switching and my billable hours also don’t reflect the mental load I carry around thinking about all the moving parts for so many different clients. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Have you found any time entry or organizational tools that have helped you?

What type of transactional practice would you prefer? Currently in a niche transactional practice with very high volume, lower size deals which are done for a few large, institutional clients. Work never slows down but rarely reaches a fever pitch. I will steadily bill 40-50 hr weeks for the rest of my career (with the occasional 60 hr week), but with limited downtime. This compared to a broader M&A practice with large deal ramp ups, some nightmare periods, but also some light periods.

Today marks two weeks from Milbank. DPW, you had two full weeks, which generally translates to roughly at the least 100 billable hours of any given associate’s time. I’m sure you are charging out your midlevels at at the least 1k an hour, so that’s easily 100k * whatever realization percentage you have. That’s more than enough to make up for whatever flimsy 5-10k raise we are asking for, no? I just went to bed at 2am and woke up at 6 for 4 fire drills. Let this misery end, Sir DPW, esquire!
