^ you might be to young to remember this little thing called SOXs

like

Before sox there were maybe half as many accounting professionals and many more firms. And I know a lot of firms hired and fired people seasonally a lot more than today. So don't rule that out. I'm not trying to make it political but regulation is important to our employment.

like

Depends on business growth in your particular group and how regulations will change. The more regulation and more rules the more work. In this industry deregulation is always bad remember that. While politically one maybe against them, your wallet will tell you to be for them.

PwC doing IFS layoffs right now. Not sure what this bodes for CS after busy season.

like

Just got an email about project fit starting on next Tuesday every one will be called into your mgr office discussing packages. I am fit so hopefully they will ask me to stay lol.

like

Everyone should just calm down, politics don't determine our job

What is sox? When the Red Sox won the World Series?

Yes project fit is going on staring on next Monday 40% of IFS folks will be cut or get a "package "😳

Ifs? What project fit??

Sounds like a pwc project to lean out the company, or fire fat people.

It seems like work is down for a lot of firms. Our firm made a similar announcement internally the last few weeks.

After 6 years of temporary contracts and unstable situations, I find my dream job in my dream company. All of a sudden the world goes upside down and I get laid off. I start sending hundreds of applications, with only 2 recruiters getting back to me to say I don’t have experience for the job (this is how it works in Italy). Add a terrible health situation in my family and it seems there’s no light at the end of the tunnel. Ugh. 😞

Hi everyone, unfortunately I was recently affected by a layoff at my company. About 30% of their marketing department along with other departments were all let go. I have 3+ professional experience with product marketing, digital marketing, and event management. If you know of anyone looking for marketing specialists or just want to network in general let me know. I would love to connect!

Are there any pros to staying at a company and getting laid off, vs. proactively looking for a new job and quitting before it happens? I.e., financial (possibility of receiving severance or any other benefits). Or is being laid off just all bad? I don’t know if my job is at risk — I don’t believe it is — but my agency lost some clients and is talking about cost cutting to be safe and get ahead of it. Fwiw, I’m ready for a change anyway.

Hey all, ~7 years I've been working with fixed income analytics (duration, spread, etc) and perf attribution for institutional inv mgmt firm with close to $400B aum.

I'm being laid off in a couple months. Should I say I'm being laid off in interviews? Or is that a negative? I get severance if I stay the whole time so ideally I can time it. Have finance degree, CFA charter.

Most of work has been IG, but also some HY, EM and equity. Want to go into equity research/PM- worried I'm pigeonholed

Hi folks, I've been offered for the role of devsecops engineer at cisco. I have put my resignation last day is on October and my current company is asking if i could consult for them on hourly basis if possible. I thought of asking my cisco HR but thought I could ask here. Is there any constraints which stops us from consulting? Will it conflict with the cisco contractual policies? Any leads would be appreciated.

Do you record your unbillable time? I have had conflicting responses. I have been told it's not good for efficiency calculations but others have told me if your still doing work let people know. For example, I get weird international stuff sometimes that not everyone gets (I think maybe? ) and I need to reread the 5471 rules or 8865 rules as I do the returns. I have been told not to bill for this but if I didn't have to spend time to do such things my billable hours would be higher

Hi tax 🐠,

I have a question for those who prep individual tax returns. My parents claim my grandfather as a dependent on their tax return and due to their low income, receive PTC for the premiums they pay on his insurance (not eligible for medicare). However, would it be advantageous to have him file for his own tax return (he stays with my parents and doesn't have his own proof of residency via bills). If so, can he get PTC if his income is 0?

I started at a new firm this year in January. I had a billable goal that was given to me mid year of around 1750 house for the year. I am nowhere near that and definitely will not meet the goal. I had so many non billable hours I was forced to take when I first came in. I worked my ass off in busy season. At my previous firm I never fell short of hours as it was B4. This firm is mid sized and more focused on WLB. My question is how bad do you think this will affect my comp??
