Changing careers completely. No experience in new industry. Very close to getting new position. Do I have leverage to negotiate salary? Taking a slight pay cut

I think you have leverage. I don’t know what industry or position you’re moving to, but focus on skills you learned that are transferable. For example, how many team members have you managed/seniored (including off shore)? What soft skills have you developed (think about events involving professional networks)? Whether in audit or tax, I’m sure you have developed problem solving skills, so think of a story that demonstrates your ability to think critically and resolve issues.

This is just a start, but the point is you can sell your PA experience anywhere, especially coming from a big 4. It’s all about how you package it.

What will u do now

I’ll be transferring to a superintendent position with a homebuilder.
I don’t have the job yet and I don’t want them to change their minds about me if I ask for a bump

It’s always better to ask and then they say they can’t, than to not ask and the answer might have been yes!

Any LA consultants looking to become ex-consultants? Hiring for a couple roles at my incredible company/team based in LA. One role is more general corp strategy type work (4-8 YE) the other is data analytics focused (SQL exp. needed, 1-4 YE). Financial services experience preferred but not required. Company pays very well and culture is much better than anywhere I have ever worked previously (esp. pwc). DM if interested and I can provide much more info!

Hi guys, I’m debating switching careers. I’m currently a mortgage loan officer but I’m very interested in SE. My degree is in finance. There’s a coding bootcamp near me called Boca Code that’s supposed to be top notch. I’m curious for feedback on 1. Are coding bootcamps actually a way into the industry like they’re marketed? And 2. What is a realistic starting salary for entry level SE? I’ve read and been told 90k, but that seems high.

What sorts of SQL questions are typically asked in interview questions for senior data analysis jobs? Like is knowing SQL from freecodecamp enough or should I look into taking a course online?

I’ve unfortunately not gotten the chance to use SQL in my current position so I don’t feel like I have enough experience in it, but have experience in everything else (Python, tableau, storytelling, etc)

I am trying to move to being a Data Scientist for tech companies. Currently working as a Analytics Manager on the ad agency side and don't directly manage anyone at the moment. My analytics team is very small, just me and the director.

How do you answer questions when hiring manager asks if I currently manage people. I have helped train people in the past.

I feel like people don’t take me seriously at my job given that I have a junior title. Half my job consists of chasing after people and no one bothers to answer my emails or follow up. Usually the requests I have come from my boss or for big projects we’d be working on. Thankfully, my boss helps me out & emails the people I need when I tell her no one responds but they’ll answer her in 2 mins or less when she sends it. Though I’m happy she’s helping, it’s such a pain in the ass to wait around.

Looking at fee increases for 2021 tax compliance and probably going for 10% increase with most clients to account for increases to wage levels this year. I’m expecting to negotiate down to 5-8% on some clients. With producer price index at 8.6% I’m hoping to successfully sell clients on the reality of higher fees. Those that want to fire me over fees I feel ok losing clients with decreasing profitability that can be replaced within a year. What kind of increase are you pursuing?

I started at a new firm this year in January. I had a billable goal that was given to me mid year of around 1750 house for the year. I am nowhere near that and definitely will not meet the goal. I had so many non billable hours I was forced to take when I first came in. I worked my ass off in busy season. At my previous firm I never fell short of hours as it was B4. This firm is mid sized and more focused on WLB. My question is how bad do you think this will affect my comp??

How do you not care / stress way too much about your job? I am a mom and stressed out most workday evenings thinking about the work / interactions during the day. I have heard TEd talks about compartmentalizing job vs personal life , mindfulness etc , but I don’t change. I could literally leave my job & focus on kids alone & be fine as husband is in a executive position. Yet, it’s my own career focus & my self induced stress and pressure that takes a toll on me. What’s your advice for me?
