NYC is a big place. The cheapest place to park a car would be free, on the street in a place without meters or alternate side parking - but you only tend to find those places in obscure corners of the city. I can think of one within walking distance of a subway stop within NYC, but it’s the end of the subway line, for instance. That’s probably not 1-3 stops from you.
Most streets do have alternate side parking so that they can sweep the streets, but not all. In some remote areas of the outer boroughs there is no scheduled street sweeping and no ASP. But locals don’t appreciate having their secret parking places revealed, so I’ll leave it at that.
Park it in Long Island city. There is no alternate side of the street parking there so you can literally park your car and leave it. No need to move it for street sweepers. One subway stop away from the city. I’m referring to the area by the water near the Pepsi cola sign.
I lived there for a year. While it sounds great, plan for 30-40 min on average to find a parking spot. I have considered not using the car several times just by the thought that I’d need to find parking on the way back. But leaving the car there untouched and safe for months is indeed great!
according to instagram - go to a bank and ask for a loan. If they ask put your car as collateral.
But in all seriousness - street parking will be cheapest but is it most convenient - nope. Check spothero they do have monthly options in there so you can compare but not worth it to find parking spot 1-3 train stations away..

There’s a section on Craigslist. Under Housing > Parking/Storage. All the ones in Exchange Place/JC I’ve rented have been covered parking in secure condos that use a pass to get in after hours. If you live downtown, it’s 1 stop on the PATH to get your car, and 5 min to the Turnpike. Wouldn’t rent there if your needs are East of the city.
Staten Island has lots of free & safe street parking, and is just a 25min ferry ride or bus ride away.
Sell the car - just sold mine and I haven’t missed it
365 beltell icon parking garage in DT BK. $269 a month. Valet open m-f from 6 to 10pm. Closed on weekends though so get your car before they close on Friday if you need it on the weekends
There are garages in Brooklyn - cobble hill area for $800 month
Less than $800 a month. Seems pretty clear
Not the price point you are looking for, but the battery parking garage above the Carey tunnel is awesome. It’s self-park and ~$450/month.

Parked my cars there for years. It really is a great garage. Left my cars covered. Never a hassle.
Stuytown has free parking!!
