Has anyone found a way to navigate and negotiate offer letter when hiring manager says “14-16 hours a day and 6 days a week is normal at the big4” ?

I’m new in a dual media relations/digital role. I found myself surprised to see that the digital team actually has account editing video/designing graphics. Is this normal? Before I was at a larger agency where creative would be called in to do this work. We have a creative team at this new agency so I’m not sure why they aren’t called to support. It seems a bit unprofessional as these executives are clearly not ‘pros’ in this area of designing/editing.

So yesterday, I was in the running for 2 positions in the same division at Goldman Sachs, got invited yesterday to go for a 3rd position after they submitted my HireVue, all of this is in the Salt Lake City office. They came back to me shortly after that saying they were inviting me to a superday next week for all 3 positions. If anyone knows what the next steps are, I’d appreciate any info or insight. Joined Company A, 2 months ago in APM role. Now, I have got another offer from Company B for the same role.

Company A is in real estate, Company B is in healthcare.

CTC at Company A: 21 fixed + 1 retention bonus (1 year)

CTC at Company B: 22.5 fixed + 2.5 variable+ 1 joining bonus

Should I join the new company? Or ask the current one to match the offer?

P.S. both companies are Bangalore based startups though company A is bigger in terms of employees. (1500 vs 150)

I never knew what I wanted to be when I grew up, but in college (as a psych major) I randomly got a work study job in the HR office and enjoyed it. Graduated in 2009 when finding a job was impossible and wanted to continue in HR but ended up in payroll for a few years. Finally got an HR admin role with payroll duties, and have since worked my way up and dropped the payroll duties along the way (thankfully 😂)

Hi Everyone, I have been an HR Generalist for close to 7 years. I had good managers and poor managers in between. My VP once told me not to pursue my MBA because she would teach me everything she knew. She never did. I am currently going for my SHRM SCP. I really enjoy being a Generalist but I don’t know if I want to be an HR Manager. Any suggestions on other areas of HR I should consider?

Those of you Director/ VP level HR folks, what exactly do you do in terms of “strategic” HR? I earned my Director wings 1 year ago. When I started in HR I always wondered about the meetings my Director or VP would be in. Like what were these big cool things they’d be working on. I’m taking the SPHR in less than 2 months and haven’t started studying for it. How difficult is it? I’ve been in HR for 20 years and have experienced ALOT in that time, although there are always employee relations scenarios that surprise me! How much do I really need to study for this? I work in manufacturing and have seen an uptick in employees abusing substances. We have a zero tolerance policy & are abiding by it. We have trained all out supervisor on reasonable suspicion & have provided them with tools to help identify. With that I’m trying to find ways to get to our employees who may be struggling BEFORE they decide to come to work impaired. Any ideas on what to do? We do have an EAP & are encouraging employees to utilize the services but it may be falling on deaf ears.
