Chicago Tribune: Huge crowd gathers at Rotary Hill near Naperville District 203 offices to demand area schools reopen. Hundreds of Naperville-area parents & students rallied Monday to urge local school boards to bring students back to the classroom and the playing field. Hmm...so all these parents just want to send their kids into schools do die, right? And kill all the teachers and their families too. All out of pure selfishness.

OP, hate to burst your bubble but plenty of areas in the country have opened up schools/sports. It’s more then the surface level argument you are spouting here. There are many factors at play

likefunny

"Burst my bubble" LOL I am a parent in Chicago which means: no school, no sports, no extra-curricular activities that do not involve screens of any kind. Do you think I am advocating for keeping schools closed? Think again.

Parents and school district leadership should join together and direct their anger towards the federal government for botching the COVID response so badly that society still cannot safely function at a basic level almost 7 months later.

like

OP - you might want to check how you phrase your opinion, you’re coming off quite “covid entitled” You do realize so so so many parents do not have a choice to work from home like you, right? They are not choosing for their kids and teachers to die - they are literally choosing between quitting their job to take care of their kids and being able to pay rent and put food on the table. I’m a little shocked by how rude and one sided your POV is, maybe educate yourself a bit before spouting such strongly worded views

SM1, please look up the meaning of "sarcasm". And also my response to M1 above.

SMH at my childhood school district... although I’m not at all surprised to hear this either (even if the ‘Thrill has gone less red recently). At least all the teachers I liked have already retired but I’m sure the current teachers must be super stressed in this situation.

American education is just childcare with a learning oriented twist on it. No surprise that parents are clamoring for schools to reopen but aren’t furious that American secondary education is one of the worst in the developed world, especially considering how much money we spend per pupil.

@MC1 the Asians that can afford it (although they’re definitely not coming over for NCUSD203 lol). Otherwise, they come for college. Grad school, if poorer (relatively speaking). That being said, if my memory serves me correctly, NCUSD203 actually ranks very well in keeping cost per student low relative to academic success (or at least it did when I graduated 15+ years ago) — which is also not to say that it isn’t part of a flawed system.

Kids are being kept out of schools and sports due to a piss poor federal government handling of the virus situation. Blaming the school board of any given suburb misses the point entirely.

Hundreds? 203 has ~17k students. That’s nothing!

...of course you work for KPMG 🤣

I have a question, but to put it in context takes more characters than this allows--I'll explain more in a reply. Briefly, I struggled through seven miserable years of teaching until I finally got asked back by a school in 2019. My classroom management was disastrous; I knew it, but couldn't seem to fix it. Then I took a seminar, and got better. It really was that simple, though of course I'm still learning. So, can classroom management be taught? I believe so, but no one else seems to agree.

At my 1st industry job. Another analyst starting the same time as I is annoying the heck out of me. He never shares information, and always just repeats what I said in group messages, emails, zoom meetings (and prompts me to go first). He even stalks my calendar and compares the schedule overlap with our manager’s to figure out my meetings and schedule🙃. He also pushed me under the bus (he didn’t do a task even though i reminded him, yet he said I didn’t do it either together). Just here to vent
