Child tax credit - my husband and I took the child tax credit for my two step kids who we have been claiming together since we started filing jointly after marriage in 2015 . One dependent moved out early 2021. I was paying their health insurance all year . We have no way of knowing if bio parent claimed them and can’t ask due to contentious relationship. I’m going to think she did so we won’t but how screwed are we goi g to be taking a tax credit for someone we aren’t claiming now ? State-PA

Anyone knows if it is easier to get a mortgage for an investment property than for second home? Mortgage specialist from a bank I worked with for my first purchase said rates would be a bit higher for rental property and cannot use gift money for downpayment. How does rental income come into place in the whole process? How can potential rental income reduce my rates or upfront cash outflow? Also should I use the same bank for this second mortgage? Any recommendations? Thank you in advance.

About 4 years ago a big R&D group at a F500 biotech hired two interns, myself (M) and a girl from another school. At the very end of the internship I learned I was paid ~30% more than her….I still feel really awkward about this. What type of HR team let’s this slide?!

Mortgage strategy question: moving from HCOL to MCOL city, selling current house and buying a new one. Will net enough equity from the sale for up to 20% down payment. How do you think about mortgage rates, points, PMI, etc for the new purchase? I'm in favor of putting less down and investing the difference, but not if the terms are worse.

And I'm talking with both a broker and a credit union - is one better than the other?

I am in tax so any insight into that specifically would be much appreciated!

In need of advice. I am wrapping up my masters in accounting while I am working in consulting; however, I am interested in tax. I want to transfer when I finish in May but seems like all the openings posted in ToD seems to be for tax seniors and above. I have pretty strong connections with tax PPMDs but not in my local office (not looking to move). Would it make more sense for me to leave Deloitte for an associate level tax position or take my chances at an internal transfer to tax senior?
