CLE for new attorneys -- what topics would you recommend?

Should I look for overviews in areas my firm practices, or just courses that seem interesting? Are there any topics or types of courses you think are helpful for new lawyers? It seems like more experienced lawyers half-ass CLE at their desks, but surely there are some valuable classes for baby lawyers...

One of the most valuable lessons you will soon learn is that CLE time is half ass time.

I usually do one of those bridge the gap programs just to meet my credit requirement and remove that stress and then monitor CLE offerings throughout the year and take whatever is interesting to me.

I do the one(a) my bar association recommends for newer lawyers, then pick up something like an update on legal issues within my field or go somewhere to see friends on a topic we practice.

Im currently studying Industrial Engineering with a minor in management. I’m interviewing currently for consulting, and theres a VC course at my school that seems really interesting but I can’t fit it into my schedule without removing the last class I need for my minor. Would not getting that minor do any harm to me short or long term? Im thinking that if I end up at consulting especially no one will care about a management minor they’ll just look at the firm I worked for.

I studied computer science in school but I didn’t do well due to life coming in the way. I got poor grades but ultimately finished my degree without any internship experience.

After three months of job search, I started for 45K at a construction company as a Jr App Support. After a year I shifted in to QA for 65k and now after a year of QA, I have finally gotten a position as a software engineer for 78K base.

The imposter syndrome is finally gone!

Hang in there, hard work pays off.

I am making a career switch from Marketing/Account Management into Consulting. Would appreciate if someone can share their path into this field and how they went about finding a case study partner to practice with? Any great books/ or recommended online programs/certifications would be helpful too!

Hey, any corporate lawyer / in-house counsel / corporate counsel from India in this bowl? What do you think about the biggest challenge of moving from a law firm role to in-house role or vise versa?

I was fired last month after a short time at the company. I knew things weren't going well- it was a terrible culture fit & I was also planning my exit strategy. They wouldn't give me specific reasons other than to vaguely say it was performance related. I agree I made a few dumb mistakes (none of any dire consequence) but what kills me is that I tried really hard. I don't want to change careers but I have a deep seeded fear that no matter how hard I try, I will never be a "good attorney".

Do we have professionals from Brisbane, or other Australian cities here?

I wanted to know what do you guys think I should ask for expected compensation - my profile is :

3 Years into InfoSec compliance around ISO27001; SSAE-18; CIS

1 Year into Identity and Access Management (PAM focussed)

Holding ISO27001LA, CompTIA Security+, AZ900.

In next 4 months I target to achieve AZ500, and CISSP.

Can someone please evaluate and tell me what can I ask in AUD ? Pre and Post CISSP

Thanks in Advance

You ever just sit in a team meeting and realize you don’t relate to anyone in your job anymore. The small talk, the corny jokes all seem uninteresting and you just want to get your money and go home.

And don’t say look for another job because I’ve been actively looking for a year now 🥲

My firm has a collections budget (80% of your billable rate x 1850 hours) and an hourly budget that must be met in order to be eligible for a bonus. The firm cares very little about originations and will reward someone for making their collections over someone who brings in new work. I missed my collection budget due to some odd timing with a client, but originated more than all my peers so no bonus for me. I’ve been at this same mid level firm for 9 years and it’s all I know.
