To add to my earlier comment, what makes you think women don't use the fact that men look at boobs to their advantage? There's nothing sexier than a woman who is well put together, carries herself confidently, and also knows what she's talking about. Knowing how to toe the line between no cleavage and too much cleavage, when combined with an outfit that perfectly suits her body, looks as nice as a fit guy who's wearing a tailored suit. You should be able to flatter yourself as a consultant, but should know how to do so professionally. Hanging boobs out is not it. Feeling like you need to wear a turtleneck to hide your large boobs is not it either. Wearing what fits and looks good on you - more importantly, brings YOU happiness - will all have a positive effect on your self esteem and your confidence. People see you how you let them. Do it on purpose.
@D10: Try this: read a dress code. In MANY professional work environments wearing inappropriately low cut tops/showing cleavage is deemed inappropriate. I didn't make that up. Enforcement is a whole different issue as times and opinions (and fear of backlash) changes. That is not a comment on personal choice or preference nor did I say if you show it you are somehow not a solid performer or somehow less than you peers. Don't misconstrue or twist my words. And please don't make assumptions about who I am or how I dress. As I pointed out above there are MANY ways to be feminine and sexy at work (if that's what a woman wants) without baring her breasts in the workplace. So maybe you want to get off your soapbox and stop making assumptions and preaching at me like I'm some poor, misguided sap.
Always yay
No if you're a female and want to be taken seriously.
Different industries, different rules. Why is that so hard to accept or understand?
A2, grow up. This is the business world, not your social justice playground. Cleavage is not professional and accepted in the consulting world
Because straight boys don't think straight when cleavage is on display. There is not really a similar situation for men unless their pants are two sizes too small. I would send that guy home too.
I guess I don't really understand why you would want to show cleavage at work. Then you're just the "boobs girl" and not the "insert-whatever-you're-good-at-professionally-here colleague." I don't think it has anything to do with men's sexual reaction. I'm a straight woman and you would still me the boobs girl in my eyes.
Why tf can't women show cleavage if they want? I came into consulting having worked in the fashion industry, and it's wayyyy different over there yall. The nip is free in that industry, as it should be! When will society move past all the "rules" for business and start conducting business based on merit of work rather than appearances and adherence to these unspoken "rules"
Am a 34G. From personal experience, a sure fire way of not being taken seriously is if you have boobs. The amount of bullshit a person has to deal with in the professional setting grows exponentially with boob size. Cleavage is "asking for it" according to several male colleagues in an informal poll. It's just not worth anyone's time to fight this type of reality.
Happy Friday! ( . )( . )
Ball cleavage ^^ ๐๐๐
A3 women shouldn't have to change their attire bc of men's inability to grow the hell up and be professional. That's ridiculous
You're free to do as you please, obviously, but the decision you make is not without risk. Risk of not being viewed professionally, risk of distracting team mates, risk of chatter behind your back, etc. If none of that bothers you, then free those puppies (my vote), but if you're unsure, keep the cleavage for the weekend (and call me).
Yay ๐๐
I personally have found showing cleavage to be a career advancing move
A8 I get where you're coming from but damn man you can compare boobs to men's calves ๐
If a man had ball cleavage, I couldn't take him seriously either. It's not appropriate, and has nothing to do with women's rights to bare boobies. It's not that type of work place. Fashion? Absolutely. Theatre Arts? Yep. Corporate? Nope. Government or Academia? Hell no.
I think there's a middle ground here... I think the top of your cleavage is totally ok. But approaching that halfway point down the boob curve is where it starts to get really unprofessional. Just a hint of the cleave. ๐๐ผ
I'd send you home to change. And a memo to your manager on professionalism.
Yay yay yay yay did I mention yay
This is bullshit. I will wear what i want. Have had straight 2s all five years. No one cares if you are the person on the team thats doing the shit. Your business suits and tumi bags only go so far. Clients are smart enough to know a good consultant who gets shit done is hard to find
